I mostly use white around borders and outlines. Then I use color as filler in bushes and in flower beds

Typed in "whites only" in google and felt a little disturbed when I saw the images. Typed in "whites only" and got this...

See, I don't think this is right. I don't like the idea of mixing white and colored lights. It just looks tacky. Call me a traditionalist, but when I see a mix of white and colored lights it looks a little extreme for my tastes. I think if you do lights, just go all white or go all colored. This will give your house some identity.

Agreed. I don't think its a traditionalist thing either. Just looks weird to have both in most cases.

I'm actually looking for Christmas lights and other New Orleansy/Blues Dive decorations for the new 10' X 40' party deck on my back porch. Any suggestions? Prolly gonna wait until after Christmas to buy the lights so I can get a big ol' discount. :)

Primarily white, but our oak trees are white and red alternating like candy canes, it is a neighborhood tradition.

Colored lights are problematic -- they tend to not work very long and create a lot of problems

I love Christmas lights but don't usually put them up at home because we spend so much of the holidays on vacation/ visiting others. What we should decorate is our car, then, but there are only so many ways to do that. Thinking of putting a light-up wreath on it but don't want to get pulled over; white lights in that case are probably safer than colored.

For those of you putting them up at home - I vote for colored, and the more the better. Part of the fun of the holidays is riding around looking for those wonderful, multicolored, tacky but fun displays that have one of just about everything. :)

I have to put the lights up or my 5 year old daughter will certainly cry and my wife will make my life miserable because of it. Can't have that. I hate going up on the roof, but a mans gotta do what...

I usually do all white. Might try the candy cane thing on the trees too this year like a couple of others have mentioned. I've seen that and I think it looks nice.
