Al_Iannazzone Al Iannazzone New Orleans did well, getting scola, odom, dragic and no. 1 for cp3 HOU got a good big -pau- but have to do something else. Nene? Dalembert?
I am really amazed that so many folks here seemed to think that we could land Dwight or CP3 for Martin/Scola + 1st + cannon fodder. This was NEVER going to happen. The last 2 years have shown what it takes to get THAT caliber of a player via trade. And what you need to ALREADY HAVE to land one through FA. Clearly, the lockout was too long for some peoples mental stability
Because the NBA, who owns the Hornets, just GAVE Chris Paul to the Lakers. They need Howard to go play the Heat in the Finals this year.
Geez... Its hard to find a post on here not about Juan Carlos Navarro... -Look, all those wanting Morey's head... Try and wait a few days till the Rockets sign whoever they can get starting with Nene as the #1 option. -Does this trade leave a bad taste in our mouths?... of course it does, we love Scola/Martin(well some do), but realize that finally... FINALLY Morey has himself an All-Star to build around. And Yes Pau Gasol is a center, albeit a finese one. Getting the best Center in the Western conference(even though he was listed as PF last year.) to build around is the right deal to make regardless of how much we all like the players given up. Just a year ago, there were debates on who was better with so-called analysts on ESPN, Gasol or Dirk. You know who those analysts picked by majority....Pau. Not saying Pau can single handily lead a team to a title, but he can be a major piece. Is that not the goal Morey has had since it was clear the T-Mac/Yao days were numbered???
You know who would complement Pau well? Marc Gasol. Hey, did you hear Houston just acquired Pau, shed some cap space, and also got Marc's brother to help sway him in FA?
This is one of these deals that there better be more to come or the fact that we gave up too much will become obvious real quick. Gashol is a legit big, very talented offensive player (on defense, not so much), but he proved to be the missing piece for the Lakers. Remember how we whined when they got him. So did the rest of the league. BUT we gave up the store to get him. Half our offense is gone. Two of my favorite players; I wanted Martin for years and Scola was my favorite Rocket since the 90's. This is the disturbing part, there must be more. If not, I don't see the net gain.
They wouldn't, but it won't stop him from demanding a trade or risk him signing there as a free agent anyway. Your welcome, Los Angeles.
31 year old Gasol will not be centerpiece of deal to bring in batman. The whole acquiring assets model is deeply flawed. We are chasing our tails
Gasol is a better asset than those guys, and has a better contract even. And they get more cap room. He makes them better in the short term, and in the long term by being a better asset and the extra cap space. I don't understand how trading 2 guys for 1 changes the long term trajectory of the team so much in your mind. What would you expect to get from Scola/Martin that would be better than Gasol?
