What if time ... What if Morey had Lee slotted above Martin this year? What if Morey had PPat slotted above Scola this year? What if Houston grabs DMo back from the Euro league because he has shown that he soon will be somewhere between Kucok (sp?) and Dirk soon? What if we make no other moves this year and go all in for DWill next year? That would be brass balls for you. Ok - I just had a couple of sips of the kool-aid. Just a couple...
I don't get why we people are saying we haven't solved our center problem when we just acquired Gasol. Gasol can play center and he's 7'0. I'm not completely on board spending that much on another big man, although the idea of getting Nene or Marc as well is tempting. I rather spread our talent out and spend our money getting a nice perimeter player to compliment Lowry and Gasol. Gasol is going to be our dominant scoring post man. We just need another cheap defensive big to help block shots. How much does Dalembert go for?
So I'm not sure if Pau is a Super Star, but barring old age, in the NBA you always trade for the Super Star.
Followed by our involvement in the trade. Kyle L, 2014 first, ppat, and hill for D. Fish. Lakers get Dwight, Orlando gets everything else. LAME
In this deal do the Rockets create cap? Yes. Do they add a top 15 talent for non-all-starts? totally. Good day? You bet. the Landry trade stung earlier as well, but there was a scenario brought up maybe a month ago that posed the question, "would you bring back Landry" and this board gave a bunch of, "love the guy, but no way"
So...as it stands today Gasol Patterson Morris Lee Lowry Morey Please get Deron Williams in the offseason net year
We'll see...but CP3 has had some pretty major knee injuries... He's more like a 30 year old player...
That's the thing, nobody really knows all the details to this trade. For all we know, we may have a commitment from Nene or may even get Okafor for the draft pick and Dragic that was included. Once the final trade is out there, we will know if this was completely mind boggling or could actually help bring in another all star wing/center.
Again, you have to consider the style of play. It's not that cut and dried. Gasol isn't a particularly athletic guy, has no history of injury and is signed long-term. I think, when you look at his game, it's perfectly reasonable to expect him to maintain this level of production through age 35 or so. It's not that different than acquiring a 26-year-old Tracy McGrady, in terms of the "number of years" argument. If you want to argue rebuilding, that's fine, but giving up your "two leading scorers" when they're each mid-level veterans doesn't speak to that. If they can't acquire a Batman, I don't see their position as much worse off than if they didn't make the deal. If they can, it's a lot better off.
Because we weren't building around them. No one thought they were. They were assets right? Movable parts for the piece we'd build around. So those two pieces plus backup pg plus first rounder netted us 31yr old Robin.
I totally feel the same about Gasol brother. I really really hope the dudes gone within a few months. He'll probably cry his way out of Houston anyways. Next up:"Rockets considering offers for Pau Gasol".
We do not need DWill! I mean I would gladly take him, but we really need a shot blocking, dominate force Center (i.e Howard). If that happened with Gasol, Morris, Lee and Lowry. We would contend for the next 5 years.
Can't believe we did this deal. Terrible ****ing trade. Not only does it not make sense on our end we help the damn Lakers out
What other piece to build around do you think we could have realistically obtained? And once you have answered that question, here is question no. 2: Do you think our chances of getting that piece are better with Scola/Martin as trade bait or with Gasol as trade bait?
He said its the easier route, which it is. Whether its quicker or not depends totally on luck. A lot of teams are really bad for a long, long time and never become legit contenders. It makes the job easy from a management perspective (just sit back and hope for the best), but there are no guarantees that it will work. If the Rockets managed to cut salary and increase the talent level of the team while also clearing some spots in the rotation for younger players (Lee, Patterson) to take on a bigger role -- that's good, right? The tank option which you are calling for is still available to them. I think it would be easier to trade Gasol's contract for strong "rebuilding" pieces than to trade Martin and Scola's contract, because Gasol is a far more valued player.
