Looks good right now, but not sure how they'll like it in a year or two. The hornets are in a similar situation as us, and I can imagine some fans wanting the team to go full rebuild. After this trade, they will be mediocre for years to come. Yeah, we gave up too much, but honestly, which team in the NBA really want Martin and Scola?
posts like this that make me mad... Name 3 PF's better than Gasol? Better yet. Name 3 Centers better than Gasol? I win.
I like Scola and K-Mart (my kids both have K-mart jerseys) but let's be honest, they were only good at one end of the floor, and this team wasn't going anywhere with three starters who couldn't play any defense. Plus, we desperately needed size and to thin out the roster. This move addresses all of the above. Hopefully, Morey will make another move, but I'm really excited to see this team play.
Okay, thinking about this for a second...we would have had to give up a major piece (Scola, at the least, Martin, more likely) in any sign and trade. Gasol is better than any free agent we would have gotten in a S&T. I think we overpaid, but I think we overpaid for an underrated superstar who can be the best player on a contender if his #2 and 3 were pretty spectacular (which they aren't with the way we've been gutted, but it's a start).

I agreee, but in the new CBA the max amount of cash usable for trades is 3 mil. That's for the entire season and the draft. We used to buy picks for 2 mil +, so it will make it a lot harder to jusy buy lots of picks.
WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski Houston's agreed to send a 2012 first-round pick -- previously obtained from the Knicks -- to New Orleans as part of package, source says
Does he make the Rockets a contender? Not a playoff team, but a championship team. The bigger picture is how much better did the Rockets help the Lakers become?
Anybody ready to tackle this? I pose this question to all of those who object this trade: With tanking clearly not an option, name a better player that could be brought to the Rockets for Scola/Martin/Dragic. Can any of you come up with a better name than 7'2" Pf/C Pau gasol?
Problem is, you don't get to choose what order your stars come. I agree that Gasol's an ideal No. 2 and not a No. 1. The thing is that before today, we had neither. Maybe we never acquire our No. 1 and the Gasol trade ends up inconsequential. But the Rockets traded two B/B+ pieces for an A/A-, and at least laid the foundation for eventually competing. It might not work out, but I feel a lot better about their direction than I did this morning.
I don't see what's wrong with this trade. We shed a little salary and got a top 15 guy in the process. I'm sorry guys but Chris Paul is the next Brandon Roy - a great star limited by injuries. I'm telling you he looks like he lost a step. Still one of the smartest players around, but he aint the CP3 of 2 or 3 years ago and he never will be. LA is going all in on injury prone players and why not - they got a small window before Kobe becomes average. If I'm LA, I try to get Dallas to use their Amnesty on Haywood, sign Chandler, and trade him for Bynum. Would be funny if Paul didn't want to sign with LA. As for Houston, top flight guards want to play with bigs and if Houston is gunning for one of those types of players in a free market scenario they gotta have one. Besides, the list of truly good bigs is about 5 deep in the entire NBA. That Houston traded a couple of good, but not great players to get one is significant. Getting a scoring guard to pair with him is easier(like when we got Martin in the first place).
Horrible, horrible trade. I doubt we will even see the best of Gasol considering he is probably mentally crushed after being sent from the Lakers to a lottery team.
If Houston give up the New York 2012 pick do they have any first round picks in the next draft?? I still like the trade, getting Pau is a huge upgrade. Shame to see a high character guy like Scola go but you have to give up quality to get it back.
