With Tyson Chandler on the verge of signing w/NY, Miami is looking into ways of acquiring Chauncey Billups, league sources tell SI.

Good fit for them. I think a Knicks team even with Chandler can't stop the Heat, just because they have no perimeter defenders- Fields and Shumpert can't guard Billups AND Wade AND Lebron. But Wade, Battier, and Lebron can easily shut down Melo.

If the Knicks amnesty Billups, there you go. But surely they realize that and would only do it to get CP3.

Miami has no cap space to trade for him and they won't be able to bid for him.

    Sounds about right.

Lebron can't finish in the fourth, so it makes sense that they acquire Mr. Big Shot.

Lebron James might just finally be able to win a championship, with 2 other perennial all-stars (maybe even 3, Billups could easily get in another all-star team) and 2 finals MVP...

Did you guys see the quote from Chauncey's agent threatening teams that consider claiming him? Absolute bush league.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...F?slug=mc-spears_tyson_chandler_knicks_120811

“He’s irate under the cirumstances,” said Billups’ agent, Andy Miller. “He felt this would be his final destination, and he was promised that he would be playing for a team that was going to be competing for the playoffs. He has no intention of being open-minded about any possible situation where a team would claim him off waivers unless it’s a team he chooses himself. Buyer beware.

Ri-damn-diculous. I keep thinking about how the NBA screamed the last year about how they needed more competitive balance, now everyone is rumored to be going to the Heat, Lakers or Knicks and agents like this are threatening the small market teams that might make a claim if he gets amnestied.

Glad that new CBA took so long to hammer out.

I agree - the NBA has GOT to put an end to this. For the past 8+ years it's slowly gotten out of control.

In fact, statements like that should warrant immediate punishment from the league. Both the player and agent.

The CBA was just to give the owners more money.

In truth, most of the owners care about the bottom line, not whether they can field a winning team. And that's the problem right there.

The NBA is a complete joke!!!

Miami is a terrible market, team doesn't even sell out and players just want to go there because they have the best talent..

    Such a joke...

The NBA's credibility is at stake and I'm sure Stern realizes that. I'm not sure what he can do about it though. Maybe he can (clandestinely) make sure another team claims Billups.

I can see the Mavs picking him up and splitting time with J-Kidd.

IIRC they are over the cap too.....I don't think any of the major teams can put a bid in for him.

Billups is an expiring contract. Pacers should put in the lowest bid they can and just sit him for the year. They did that to TJ Ford and Tinsley but for much longer.
