Maybe I'm missing something. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7n5xl8g It says the trade failed. Cut about 1.7 mil from New Orleans' incoming salary.
pau was a monster at the beginning of last season but he wore down. he can't handle being the focal point anymore. plus with this crazy 66 game season with back to back to back games wouldn't that just wear him down faster?
The way the league is heading they might as well contract. These super teams are gonna kill the small market teams (ex. Bobcats). The players still have way to much power to be able to team up like this. I know i just said i like the deal for the Rockets, but the end result is another team they will not be able to compete against. Part of the fun of supporting a team is knowing that someday they have a chance to win a title. If your a Bobcats fan and you know there will never be a chance for your team to compete then whats the points of following them. They can draft a future superstar but he will eventually leave and the cycle will just continue.
I'm not as against this deal as some of you (I also want to hear the actual details first), but my problem is that it doesn't drastically help us now, nor help us for the long term. I'd say it's a lateral move in both arenas. The good news is that it'd solidify our frontcourt. Gasol can play C and Patterson will step into the PF spot. And although Gasol wouldn't be an "alpha", his presence would make this a far more attractive star destination. I'd think that's one of Morey's biggest factors, as our current roster, though solid, isn't going to cause any stars to demand a trade here. Not that having Gasol here would, but say in the eyes of a Dwight, he could imagine himself + Pau, rather than himself + a bunch of solid players (which is not any different than his Magic situation). Also, PT will open up for our young perimeter players. The bad news is that our roster is still stuck between the win-now and rebuild mode, which still equals mediocrity and mid-1st picks. Why acquire an all-star talent like Gasol when most of the rest of roster is young guys still trying to find their way? So if this is a pre-cursor to another deal, great. If not, its a lateral move. Also, I'd be far more opposed if we're giving up picks here.
I just don't get this. If our pieces are good enough to send CP3 to the Lakers, they should be enough to send him to Houston. The only way I see this is if Paul and Howard have given assurance they don't want to come here, even together.
I thought we were tanking this season, but if not, I like this trade. Scola and Martin are just a pair of guys. Hardworking and likeable sure, but not much else. Gasol gives you a legit big guy. Y'all are making it sound like we're getting robbed. There's no point in stockpiling a bunch of players and not making a move. If successful, I'm glad they'll get something. Instead of having all these small assets, it's time to make some freaking moves.
nice repped... My confidence in Morey and his computers is enough for me to have confidence that there's something beyond the surface of what looks like a total **** deal. I'd love to know the final plan though.
If we were tanking, then why would we be trading picks and taking on Gasol? Somethings aren't adding up, either this has no merit* or Morey's lost his mind. *Wouldn't surprise me if this was the case, seems like all "analysts" do is retweet rumours.
I don't think we have a 1st rounder we can trade since they all are held back from the T-Will trade. That pick would have to come from the Lakers. 2nd round pick though... who cares?
