No way we give up both Scola and Martin for an ageing Gasol. That is daylight robbery.

Would have been ok 5 years ago when Pau was entering his prime. He's been in the league 10 years now, and his legs will break down soon.

Are we trying to build a team similar to Memphis?

Dominant big men with good but not great perimeter players?

If we get Gasol and lose picks... we still need a major star to get anywhere. Gasol isn't carrying us anywhere, not by himself. What is LA sending to NO? It better be something man... otherwise just give me Paul. Who cares if he resigns or not, we've got to rebuild this thing -- and I've never been on that boat.

if LA wants to build another dynasty, then fine so be it. but I would hate for the Rockets to facilitate that and make it happen. No freakin way. I'd rather tank and be mediocre than to help LA build another dynasty.

all yall who are against this trade are being silly on many different levels, but here are the main two:

    1. we dont know the details of this deal, we could (and i personally feel we will) get more back than just pau gasol

    2. regardless, i would strongly consider a kmart and scola for gasol swap everyday of the week. every basketball fan would. please stop giving your uninformed and petty opinions as it reflects badly on the rest of rocket nation.

    thanks.

Initial impressions are usually negative, and in this case it is totally understandable. You'd be getting an older player with a lot of mileage on a really fat contract. You'd be getting a guy we've all pretty much hated for years now. You'd be aiding the Los Angeles Lakers in becoming the Miami Heat of the West. The Houston Rockets, to me, have always been the thorn in the Lakers' side -- I absolutely hate seeing them pick up table scraps from them and facilitating the next L.A. Dynasty.

Still, that said, Gasol gives you size and skill in the post we haven't had. It does not impact their cap room. I prefer the draft route and building the right way with younger players, but there are things to like about this deal. Let's see how it plays out.

I'd give up Martin/Scola for Odom/Gasol. Even trade but helps balance the Rockets roster.

I would NOT give up young assets or draft picks to get this done though. Especially if it helps CP3 land in Laker land. Why help the Lakers?

If this is the payoff Morey is expecting for the stash of assets and draft picks he's been collecting, then he needs to be demoted to NBDL duties. He can collect all he wants there, but he won't get to decide what they're worth.

Superstar or bust when it comes to cashing in our assets.

Couldn't agree more. That is a very nice lineup. With Dragic, Bud and Patterson coming off the bench? That's a tough-nosed, and exciting team.

Martin + scola for Gasol would be great if we (which I believe we will) immediately get D Jordan or Nene (preferably D Jordan).

But adding in picks would be way too much. Morey does so many good things with draft picks and I think he's the most interesting GM with his picks.

Lowry, Lee, M. Morris, Gasol + (From most likely to least: Sam. Dal., Nene, D Jordan)

Makes for a really long, athletic, two-way line up. Lowry, Lee Morris, and Jordan's toughness would make up for Gasol being soft.

I'm sure that would not be the only move Morey would make, either.

Don't forget that we also have Donatas. So, at one point in the next two years you could see a lineup like:

    Gasol
    Danatas
    Chandler (Parsons)
    Lowry
    Dragic

    Three players over 6'11''.

    Food for thought.

    This.

Any ways, why is Martin and Scola so valued?

Scola is as old as Pau and Martin is getting to that age. We got Martin to be on a Yao centered team, remember that. Not as a star player to build around.

Our real assets are our young players. This is always the case in the NBA. Lowry, Patterson, Dragic, Lee, and if we can get anything out of Twill and Thabeet and Hill...If we can't get nothing from our young players as a retooling team then yeah, this team is going to be mediocre for a while.

Scola I understand, I think Gasol and him are about the same age and there's no sense in having him and Scola and Patterson and Nene.

But Martin confuses me, aren't we trying to get a big man to pair with him?

I really hope Martin isn't in this deal. Pairing Gasol AND Martin is what I want.

I'm convinced now that Morey is determined to keep us on the mediocrity treadmill forever.

Damned if you do this trade. We need size, so damned if you don't....but the asking price is waaaaaaaaay too steep if we involve other players and picks (besides Scola and K-Mart).

If Morey thinks turning Scola & Martin for Pau & Nene/Odom/Okafor/etc. is anything but a lateral move, I'll laugh.
