KBergCBS. Knicks have jumped ahead of GSW for Tyson Chandler. Source close to talks: "New York is Tyson's first choice."

Are we sure this takes them out of the Chris Paul running? Can they not trade their roster sans Amare Melo and Chandler to add Paul? What kind of paycut would he be looking at?

    I'm scared.

Depth is still going to be an issue if you ask me for the NYK. With the Heat, they have players that want to go there. Melo and Amare are solid NBA superstars, but it's going to be very tough if you ask me when you have health concerns about Amare's knee. Chandler does help this team though.

Hello ECF, and many 2nd round exits. The Knicks do not have the space to sign Paul, unless they do a S&T involving Amare. If they sign Chandler to this contract NY would have ~$54 million on the books with just 3 players (Melo, Amare, & Chandler) under contracts in 2012.

Those three players would take up the whole cap. They would have to trade one of them to get Paul, unless he signed an MLE type contract.

thank goodness for the bidding because if there wasn't he'd be heading to the Heat.

I love how Tyson's agent thinks he's being subtle when he does this. Like the Warriors are going to offer more, more money.

If they sign Chandler for $14 mill per, they are most likely going to trade Amare for cap space to sign Chris Paul, something like Amare to Sacramento for nothing or some other team with cap space for a first round pick. They can them sign CP3 outright after this season and possibly trade for Dwight.

So now that there's no Chandler, we go after Paul hard right? He'll be that much less likely to sign with Chandler's team and if we had Paul + cap space to add Dwight, then they would have to seriously consider teaming up here no?

In all the musical chairs we can yet hope that Houston has a shot at getting back in David Stern's good graces.

Rumors are floating out there that Billups will be used in a trade. Twitter is blowing up.

Without a good PG to run the show, the Knicks offense will be dysfunctional with that front line.

So, do they trade Amare or Melo for CP? :)

"So, Melo, the good news is that we got Chris Paul, the bad new is..."

i dont think they're going to invest that much on the center position...unless chandler will play PF, which im not sure will work full time.

You may be right but I think it's very similar to the Heat. Miami is getting Battier, likely for peanuts. Players will flock to a big market with big players that give them a big opportunity at a title... I think New York would be like that if they had Carmelo-Amar'e-Chandler. And even if the Knicks don't have the money, wouldn't Paul most definitely join them? He wanted to be there without Chandler... this just seems like icing on the cake.

One key difference though between Miami and New York -- New York's top two superstars are more selfish players... not the best passers.

I can't see Paul signing at 5 mill per, no matter how favorable every other factor is.

Miami's not getting Battier for peanuts. They're using their MLE on him. Which is what you'd expect Battier to be getting on the open market anyway. Miami will get some veterans for peanuts. But with the new amnesty rule, players like Biedrins or Billups would get picked up by an under-the-cap team rather than Miami.

But who do the Knicks trade for CP? Seems that just to make the salaries match, it'll have to be one of Chandler, Amare or Melo (since Billups and Turiaf, the other signficant contract for salary matching purposes, have to be amnesties to make room for Chandler).

Do you think this is shaping up more with a trade taking place to get this going? I have a feeling we're fixing to see a trade take place.
