Every conference has the obligatory private school. C'mon. If you want to run a list go ahead. Compare programs head-to-head Big 12 vs SEC. Guess who Vandy draws in the comparison -- NOBODY. Because the Big 12 has like 8 teams.
Bwaahahaha, I hear he's also callng on Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Bear Bryant, Bud Wilkinson, Knute Rockne, John Heisman and Amos Alonzo Stagg.
A lot of rumors about Petersen pursuing the A&M job for the right price. John Granato reported from his Boise source that Petersen will leave to go to A&M for $4MM, but folks on the A&M side think there is no way A&M goes near that salary so it's likely not going to happen. I can't believe that A&M actually has a chance to make a big splash hire like this. UH supposedly just offered Sumlin $2.5MM so we are not willing to pay a little extra for a rare chance to get a guy like Petersen? The only thing I can hang hope on is that something is obviously delaying A&M getting Sumlin in the door and my hope is that they are doing whatever they can to gather donations to pay for Petersen. Not getting my hopes up though ... I've heard nothing legitimate regarding Kelly and I think we have absolutely 0% chance of that ever going anywhere. Oregon is a damn good job and they have the $Nike to pay for it where we can't match.
The big money donors at Texas have been in talks with the Peterson camp for the last 6 mos - 1 year. This is why they've been calling on Mack to have some kind of timetable for retirement - believed to be after the 2013 season (his 16th at Texas). At this point Chris Peterson is plan A, B and C as far as Mack's successor goes. And they'd be willing to fork over $5M/yr to do it.
You know... you'd think TAMU of places would get this concept... you pay the right guy more, instead of taking a chance on someone and pinching pennies, because in the long run, you wind up paying the guy you fired and trying to pay a new coach. Just pay more and get it right the first time. With that said... not sure Petersen is the right fit for TAMU. I just don't like what I've seen from him or Dan Hawkins enough to think he's the man. Yeah, for UT? He'd be stellar. He can drive that Porsche in the Big 12. But can he fix up the beat-up BMW and get it riding on the autobahn that is the SEC? Not so sure about that.
I don't doubt that one bit ... 1) Petersen is realizing that Mack might be there for quite a while as he and DeLoss are putting out there so Petersen is ready to move on and .... 2) Petersen attempting to go to A&M will put even more pressure on the folks at Texas to push Mack out the door quickly. I still don't believe A&M will pony up the money so it is irrelevant.
Agree, lot of smoke and mirrors here. Maybe Petersen's guys are using A&M start a bidding war with UCLA?
And he doesn't want to go there because it's a worse job - make sure you don't leave that part out. Thank god, btw, Texas A&M has finally left the stifling shadow of Texas behind for the SEC and is free to be its own school!
A worse job than Boise? Absolutely not. A worse job than Texas? I think I just admitted that by saying that he could be using A&M to put pressure on Texas to push Mack out.
That'd be something... if UT fired Mack Brown because TAMU forced the issue. I'd take Mack at A&M, just for ****s.
Mack and the new staff have been killing it on the recruiting trail this year. Ideally this sets the program up for a nice transition in 2014 with a full cupboard. Handing the program over to a new HC with the two headed ***** sandwich at QB is not an option.
was told by an alledged aggie insider that sumlin is most definitely smoke and mirrors and that petersen is a&m's guy.
