Just wondering who else on here owns a web site and what it is about. Might be a good chance to swap ideas and info. I own a sports web site (http://www.leaguefreak.com) and I'm great at the content side of things, but when it comes to everything else, I'm rubbish! I haven't looked to share links with other web sites in years, I've never been to sure of how to approach sponsors, I kind of feel like I've put together a nice little network between the site, Twitter and Facebook pages I've set up, but I just don't have the knowledge to make as much money as I could be from it. Having said all that, I'd do it for free. I really enjoy writing on the site and when I get good feedback, that is just a bonus. One great thing I've found lately through Twitter is that it lets long time readers contact me so easily. I get amazing at some of the requests people make of work I did YEARS ago that isn't even on the current site any more. So, what web site have you go and what are your experience in setting it up and running it?
I work in the Online Marketing space so if there is any way I can help I will. I run a lot of financial sites.
See that is one side of things I have zero knowledge about. I have adsense on my site but I dont generate enough traffic to make that worthwhile. Ive had a few sponsors who have paid to have small banners placed on my site for set periods, but not many. I might be wrong, and like I said, I'd do it for free anyway, but I feel like I am not getting out of the site as much as I possibly could be.
There are basically two ways to monetize a site. What you're doing now -- but you need traffic and lots of it. You cant fake it either, potential sponsors will look at Alexa. If you run ads or affiliate links, adsense, whatever -- you need the traffic to convert into clicks. Or, you can try and capture leads. Provide valued-added content in exchange for an email. Send them a newsletter with good content, maybe pitch an affiliate product here and there, or simply sell the leads to a company that targets your market.
I sold diet products online until yesterday ha. But the merchant fees got too extreme while I was in school so had to shut that baby down.
I own a few, but they are not money makers or social ones like this one here. Mine was built to help raise funds for a business. www.peezocker.com There is a private portion of it that shows the games we were making and our business plan if anyone is interested, I might post that info here, we are not doing anything with the site anymore.
