He's not even playing well. On his team and against what teams he has been playing..he's playing average to slightly above average, if even that.

It's really sad that this forum has such a low basketball IQ.

I will repeat it again, his stats are extremely inflated. if you actually knew even basic 101 about the Euroleague you would know that.

Anyone judging him by his stats knows nothing about Euroleague. You have to judge based on watching him play and based on that........he is Raef Lafrentz with worse shooting and no defense.

The potential is there, but he's clearly not even remotely close to as good as this forum is saying he is.

Actually, considering how this forum rated Andersen, this guy is 10 times worse on defense than Andersen.

Again, that only counts games played since the year 2000. It's not an actual record. It's just a record since the current owners of Euroleague took over in 2000.

I think many of us are excited about his potential and to see him not be a "conscientious objector" to rebounding.

They are every bit as bad or worse than what I have said. I love this thing where people are now Euroleague experts after watching 3-4 Prokom games.

Good thing this board thinks he is 10x better than Dirk. Did you just claim that basketball fan forum collectively has low basketball IQ? Unfortunately for the rest of us you are only 1/10 of the poster you think you are.

Well he finally started going after rebounds. Probably this was a result of Treviso letting him off their team because of the fact that he would not rebound. Maybe he finally got the message there.

I will say it again, he is more talented than any player on the Rockets roster. But, this forum is in serious cuckoo land with the talk about what he is doing right now in Euroleague.

He would be lucky to log 10 minutes a game in any competent Euroleague team. So, the forum is completely blowing this out of reality.

I am just thinking how Andersen was trashed and slammed in this forum and can't even imagine what will happen to Motiejunas who is a worse shooter and way worse on defense than Andersen..........

with the forum and GM going into cray levels of overrating about how good he is right now, it could get really ugly for this guy in this forum once he actually started playing for the Rockets.

It's quite sad really seeing how incredibly fickle most fans here seem to be.

My bad for thinking there might be a few people here that had adult maturity levels.

    Motiejunas sets defensive rebounding record
Donatas Motiejunas etched his name in the Euroleague record book on Wednesday by hauling in 18 defensive rebounds in Asseco Prokom Gdynia's 67-52 victory over Union Olimpija Ljubljana. The promising young big man more than doubled his previous rebounding high of 10 as he posted 11 points and 21 boards to lead the Polish champs to their first Turkish Airlines Euroleague win of the season. His 18 defensive rebounds eclipses the previous mark by 1, which was first set 11 years ago. Joseph Blair set the record in December 2001 when he played for Scavolini Pesaro and the competition’s rebounding king, Mirsad Turkcan, matched it in January 2003 with Montepaschi Siena. By finishing with 21 rebounds, Motiejunas became only the third person to ever haul in more than 20 boards in a single game. The all-time single-game rebounding record belongs to Antonis Fotsis, who collected 24 when he played for Dynamo Moscow in March 2007. Turkcan tallied 23 rebounds once and 21 on three occasions.

Overall, I agree with the cautious optimism you are promoting.

As many of your other posts, however, I think that your valid points are construed by your inability to understand and explain the big picture.

DMo's scouting report of the game:

*Rebounding has improved in his ability to go after them. His numbers are inflated because he has subpar rebounders around him (see K Hump) but it does not change the fact that he seems to be making a conscious effort and shows development. The best indicators of a good rebounder is someone who can get the ball in traffic, can recover after being out of position (like contesting shots), and can collect bballs that are outside of his space. Just in the game today, he did all of the above.

*His defensive fundamentals are poor (reaches in a lot, not great at positioning, does not use his size optimally) but that can be taught with better coaching. Not too bummed about that.

*His offense today seemed like he camped out at the 3 and chucked, but in reality I feel like this is more a product of his mediocre teammates, especially his guards. There were numerous times he ran hard or worked to get open but his PG could not get him the ball. That is not his fault. Another time is when he shoveled a pass in the post and his teammate could not react to it accordingly resulting in a turnover.

Conclusion is that (like you said) he is a high level talent that seems to be have a very positive projection player development-wise. The stats are not as important as what we actually saw in the game and I think that many of the people on the board who are excited are rightfully so.

OHMSS calls Morey an idiot for saying Donatas was top 10 in the euroleague.

Donatas sets Euroleague record for rebounds.

    Sounds about right.

If teams like the Jazz under Sloan and Argentina use the flex offense and have perimeter shooting Cs. Shouldn't the Rockets try to bring in Donuts this season especially after these performances?

He didn't set the Euroleague record for rebounds. How many times does this have to be explained to you?

He set it for defensive rebounds, which is included in 'rebounds'.

For about the tenth time, it was the most defensive rebounds in a Euroleague game since the year 2000.

It was not a "Euroleague record".

It's like saying the most rebounds in an NBA game since 2000 is an all time NBA record. It's not true.
