Not to take anything away from Adelman, I love McHale more already. Just the way he talks, the emphasis on being tough, working hard, basketball just being a simple game, the best players will play etc. Also the way he jokes and is not afraid of telling people how it is. Adelman was always tentative, acting like he wasn't responsible, it's on them, they have to play hard and such. I know he was a players coach but that doesn't mean he should be like a guy on the sideline just giving advise which is how Adelman comes across. McHale seems to want the players to be the way he likes them to be, to be tough as he was and make sure they work hard and it's on him. This is the way a coach should be. I always felt Adelman never took the blame and took the easy way out when the team lost. That was so frustrating. I think McHale will really push the team which could help with guys like Thabeet and T-will hopefully. I hope he will be on the sidelines pacing and screaming, getting technicals like Rudy T. Scream at a guy who is not playing his but off and take him out. I'm just excited by having him alone Please stay positive guys (no rubbish that he hasn't proved anything etc.)!
Rick would never get the team fired up like all coaches should when it's down to the wire. That's my only real complaint about the guy aside from not playing younger players. Kevin will be great, he's a straight shooter and will show his emotion.
Thabeet is not passionate about basketball. I don't think screaming and pacing will make him. I think Thabeet needs empathy, then passion. Although, I'm not for or against McHale yet. I'm taking the conservative route by saying I will have to see him on the sideline and see what decisions he makes once the season starts.
I have faith in THABEET....he be Good back up CENTER never know what if he suprise us with his defense and start scoring..never gave the guy a chance esp he probaly been playin..in the lockout...he came in and block a shot only 1 min game left last time.
Also, it's easy to like McHale because "he does x when Adelman doesn't," after us not making the playoffs. But, there are clear deficiencies that McHale has when comparing the two.
Honestly.... most of being a head coach now is being a leader and setting a tone. The assistants handle most of the X's and O's.
That depends entirely on how the organization is set up, some coaches handle that, some put it on assistants, there is more than one way to skin a cat, or coach a team..... DD
All we can do is have faith in Thabeet. You have to when you're talking about height + athleticism. There is good reasons why RA didn't play him. There will be good reasons why Thabeet will play under McHale, if he chooses to do so. All depends on our direction as a team.
He let the players do their own leading and firing up. It was his style...each has their strengths... I think Ricks was about letting the guys lean on each other more and less on him. He often let them adjust on their own during the season so when playoffs came they had chemistry. I think he really understood how to build confidence and that was his style.
I personally didn't like him on TNT/NBATV. But after listening to the interviews and press conferences he did right after becoming the head coach, I really warmed up to him. His passion for the game really comes through when you hear him talk about the game and the future of the team.
Empathy? Really? Sorry if I offend anyone on here, but **** that. you want me to give a guy born 7'3 with natural athletic ability sympathy? I work hard every single day and go to school at night just to get by. He has 0 work ethic and still got paid millions for being tall. He needs to get his head out of his ass and get to work.
From his limited sample size, I thought he did a fairly admirable job with a crappy Timberwolves team (albeit one that he was responsible for assembling). I think he will be a decent coach. Not a Phil Jackson or a Rick Adelman, but not terrible either. And for those thinking the Rockets selected McHale so that they could tank . . . get a grip. Daryl Morey doesn't want to lose his job over such ridiculous nonsense. Les Alexander wants to WIN. That may not be an overly realistic expectation with this team, but it's the boss's expectation. Let's just watch and see how it all plays out.
i'm sorry.. i just.... i need to clean that up for you: I have faith in THABEET....he could be a Good back up CENTER. you never know, what if he suprises us with his defense and starts scoring..we never gave the guy a chance especially since he has probably been playing..during the lockout...he came in and blocked a shot with only 1 min left in the game last time. okay. sorry. i had to do that. anyway, hopefully mchale leaves an impression on all our guys, especially thabeet, williams, and hill
Don't forget - the Rox are using the football coaching model with an offensive and defensive coaches implementing specific systems while KM is the leader
Exactly, and I honestly believe with McHale if you do not work hard, no playing time! So if we do not see him or T-will, they just didn't work hard enough. With RA this was true to a certain extent but with Kevin I'm 100% sure he will demand giving it 110% or go the **** home!
