If he signs with Sacremento, it would be a great move for them to help mentor Cousins.

Let's see what happens, but the team leaves read like the org has moved on.

The team reads like they want to sign Nene, but don't want to lose Chuck if it doesn't happen.

If they really really wanted Chuck they could have signed him....and made other moves to make it all work out.

I think most people appreciate all the good things Chuck Hayes did. If we retain him, he'll probably outplay the younger guys in camp like he always does, the coaches will notice that when he's on the floor the team plays better as usual, and as a result he'll get more minutes and the young guys will get more bench time.

I'm ready to turn the page and root for a new crop of players. I just hope Chuck Hayes lands in a good situation where he's given the opportunity to win over another fan-base like he did in Houston and Kentucky.

    Since when is Chuck old?

Last time I checked he's only 28 years old. One year older than Martin and only 4 years younger than Thabeet.

Exactly, I love Chuck Hayes, but we need to go younger players with greater potential.

Chuck is the typical over acheiver, a guy who goes all out and makes more gifted players look foolish, and lose confidence.

Which is great, but not if you need those younger guys to gain confidence and grow into players better than Hayes.

When did we all decide to be so defeatist? This post is depressing. I've never heard of a team wanting to get rid of someone because he challenges and outplays other players on the team.

Personally, I didn't think this was the decision the Rockets would make. But it makes sense, if they are putting much higher priority on long term success versus short term success. Their recent maneuvers (trading Battier, not renewing Adelman's contract) all point to that.

You're missing the point. I think most fans are tired of mediocrity and want to see the younger players that have more upside get more playing time to develop. Chuck is a great piece to have when you have players like Yao and T-Mac. Not so much when he is just going to take minutes away from our young players and unlikely to take us to the next level by himself.

The day we hired McHale and dumped Adelman.

It's pretty crystal clear the direction this franchise is going, and it sucks to be honest with you.

You mean the day Yao's foot gave way yet again. That was the only glimmer of contender hopes we had left. Now all we have are a bunch of role players.

A coaching change has a marginal impact for the direction of a franchise as opposed to losing it's franchise player to early retirement.

Well, when Yao went down that was the first domino but dumping Adelman put the nail in the coffin.

When Yao went down there was no need for Adelman. He was just a sad casualty of the situation.

Honestly, I'm not too sure about the culture of this team if we trade away Chuck Hayes.

We still have Lowry of course, who is a leader of his own. But when it comes to somebody who could actually challenge our young PFs/Cs, it's nobody but Chuck Hayes.

My biggest concern is the fact that we have a new set of coaching staff. We can't expect our players, especially the young players, to buy into much of what the staff has to say early on. I feel like during these circumstances, our players will turn towards the leader of the team (Hayes) more than anything.

Seems like to many leaders of this team are leaving all at once, and chemistry could become a problem.

Is that right? No way Morey would match that...it would kill next year's cap flexibility.
