And apparently he interviewed for the A&M job in NYC tonight. Interesting in that article he didn't clearly shoot down the opening. But then his comments about the conference realignment and stadium issue are interesting too. Maybe he wants assurances UH will follow through on those things before agreeing to an extension. Or maybe he's just playing nice and leaving regardless. Interviewing for a job doesn't sound like a man happy with where he is. Or he could just be keeping his options open. Either way more distractions before another big game.
Sunday Night, they had a conference call with the Media about the Ticketcity Bowl or some crap like that. A reporter, some dude name Matt in Stafford asked him something about the A&M job. They played it this morning. If mattj wants to chime in, feel free to.
incarceratedbob **UPDATED CFB NEWS**Source: Illinois will be naming Kevin Sumlin as the next HC (Should be announced next 24Hrs)
The stuff I'm hearing on campus about how he handled the game/game prep.......don't let the door hit your ass on the way out Sumlin. But I know I shouldn't hate the player I should hate the game though. It's set up to be this way.
Considering what went down with ASU ("4 million, done deal") and A&M ("Will be named HC in 24 hours"), I'd say the know-nothing tardo newswire has been BURNING HOT. And yeah, IncarceratedBob = twittersphere poop-to-wall chucker.
I am beginning to suspect Kevin lost the A&M against USM. Honestly if it is Illinois I wouldn't be surprised. Kevin played at Purdue and he might yet have family in the area or the contract offer was greater than ASU. http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/GoIllini/20111206_kevin_sumlin http://www.bing.com/news/search?q=kevin+sumlin+illinois&qpvt=kevin+sumlin+illinois&FORM=EWRE UH needs to get a clear picture of what's going on before the TicketCity Bowl turns into another USM.
A football coaching job is just like any other job. If a coach has an opportunity to make more money or move to a job that they think will benefit them, they will. Coaches like to make the fans believe they have some real affection toward the schools that pay their salary, but they really don't. I'm not being critical of the coaches, it's all business. The fans get all emotional and upset when their coach moves up the ladder, but they really shouldn't. Probably 90% of all coaching jobs are just another rung on the coaching ladder. I think UH has an excellent chance to get a good up and coming coach, as both Briles and Sumlin have proven a coach can have success at UH.
Yeah I mean I'm not surprised, and Sumlin could have bailed in '09 but didn't. I just hate there is such turnover in college football. There has to exist some coaches, not exclusively at the big programs, that care more about longevity and loyalty then just moving on up. Hopefully, with UH moving to the Big East will make the program a little more enticing. And while I like the job Sumlin has done, he still hasn't reached his and the university's goal...he's yet to win a conference championship here. Maybe we need someone else to take us to the next level.
Illinois rumors false(for right now anyways. No telling if they were true or will be true). Still apparently in the running at A&M.
Too bad Mike Leach was picked up by Washington State. I think he would've fit in great with UH. Decent recruiter and already knows the spread offense pretty well.
