In the future, let's say we eliminate all means of competition.

Unlimited food, unlimited land (let's say we've colonized other planets), we've evolved past currency, medicine is free and every disease is curable, perfection as we perceive it has been obtained.

Would we be able to sustain this lifestyle? Knowing the destructive tendencies and inherent evil that each man possesses?

Or is mankind more benefited from the more chaotic lifestyle that we possess today.

    Think about it.

(And to benefit the theoretical question, assume that genetically modifying personality traits and etc. have been deemed inhumane. So there are still dynamic personalities, people aren't going to be brainwashed drones.)

For the sake of the discussion use your own concept of Utopia.

It's a bit depressing to realize that there can never be a situation in which everyone can be happy due to human nature and man's inherent evil.

Not in our current human iteration, same reason that true socialism will not work, some people acheive more than others.

We are not all equal in ability, sad to say.

eliminating all forms of competition would eliminate basketball, including the rockets.

doesn't sound like utopia to me.

A lack of utopia isn't the result of the human condition. Go tell other animals in the wild they live in utopia or that they did before man became the dominant animal on earth. (obv you can't talk to them about it I know.)

It is possible for there to be balance in nature, but utopia? Never.

Animals don't have the means to create a utopia though. Arguably.

    OP:

No, because even if we evolved beyond currency, had unlimited food and space, etc., people would still compete. Economics is essentially the study of scarcity. And even in the situation you speak of in which scarcity is essentially done away with, there would still be scarcity in other aspects of human life. Love may be scarce, ideas may be scarce, fine arts may be scarce, and so on, and that scarcity will always lead to markets and competition. So, my answer to your utopia is that it will never exist.

The answer to my own is a resounding 'No' as well.

Neither do humans. No creature on Earth has it in their nature to create a utopian world.

    Most people's Utopia:
    - Unlimited food, health, sex
    - no work,
    - no danger or risk
    - super speedy means of traveling
    - increased/heightened physical abilities

No all that won't happen in our current form at all. Like Richard Dawkins said though we have highly evolved brains, most of our traits, senses & impulses were evolved for survival in the African plains and prairies. Not quite conducive toward maintaining harmonious balance.

We need the Big Cyber Nanny or dna restructure to pull it off.

Then there's the question of WHO gets all the paradise FIRST?
