Bad contract, it's gonna look silly in a couple of years, especially when Blake 'I draw double teams everytime' Griffin leaves LA. And yes, owners will still overpay despite the new CBA, but that's because if they don't, another owner will come along and overpay.
not a bad deal in my book, wish the rox could snag him. I'd much rather have him than nene or chandler, he's young.
Some of you guys forgot there's a premium for 7 footers that can play a little. It's not like he's Ha Sung Jin or Hasheem Thabeet. This is the way it's been and always will be new CBA or not. Back to my original point though I'd rather have Jordan instead of really overpaying for a much older/expensive guy like Chandler or Dalembert when they bring similar things to the table.
This...i mean were paying thabeet 5 mill. this year. im sure jordan wouldnt be getting 8 mill. a year, more like 6 then 8 then 10 or some kind of upward scale, im not a scale expert lol point is that his salary would be low enough the first 3 years to see if he's going to develop and if not in that 4th and 5th year weve got a nice contract to trade. Can we even off him a contract?
7 pts and 7 boards is above average now? How ****ing pathetic is that? Most centers in the nba can dunk. Nearly two blocks a game is nice though. 8 mil a year for jordan is as bad as what dalembert is probably going to get paid.
You just proved your own point. 7 foot centers that can play a little don't grow on trees. Consider his age of 23 and "potential" to improve and you're getting FMV at 8-9 Mil a year.
You are free to believe what you want, but Jordan wouldn't be the first C without a work ethic that didn't improve. If he was a gym rat who loved basketball and you could observe any sort of development over his 3 seasons, I'd agree with you. Re your last statement, few things are out of the question but it doesn't make them likely. I will be very surprised if DJ ever does a double-double. In fact, I doubt he ever does a single double over an entire season. The analogy with Swift was purely to point out a lack of skill development. I don't think he's quite that dumb or lazy. We'll find out on the lazy part after the ink is dry. To clarify something: I want to be wrong about this guy. I hope he re-signs with the Clippers, improves and helps them surpass the Lakers. Playing next to Blake Griffin is good for him.
I can't disagree with this. Especially about the playing next to Blake Griffin being good for him. You could notice the improvement in his game as you pointed out from year 2-3 when Griffin came on board. Sometimes players need another superstar player/ veteran/ great coach etc. to motivate them. Jordan didn't have that before Griffin came on board and he was playing for a bottom dweller with a long history of losing in the Clippers. That's what makes Griffin so great but that's another story. Lets flip the script, I bet if Jordan was drafted by a winning organization like the Spurs his development, skill and discipline would be much more noticeable playing with Duncan every day, being surrounded by winners and having Popovich as a coach. Now of course Jordan doesn't seem like the prototypical Popovich guy but *IF* Pop were to take him on he'd make him look damn good and get the most out of him. Let's not forget Parker and Gino were whipping boys for Pop before they became stars. I guess we'll have to take a wait and see approach with Jordan but I like his current situation where he gets to play alongside Griffin who makes the game easier for him.
cheap bastards! Crap like that scares major players away, probably won't sit well with Blake Griffin either.
I feel like people on this board severely undervalues centers. Many people would say that Chandler, Dalembert, Haywood, Perkins, etc were/are overpaid. Guess what, the money they got were at market value. Since there is always a premium on centers, they tend to get "overpaid" most of the time (not max guys). DJ at 8 million per year is a HUGE BARGAIN. Haywood's market value last year was 9 million per year for comparison. IMO, the best value for centers this year is actually Dalembert. His 36 min stats are off the charts and he's been extremely healthy the past 5 years. If he was in his mid 20s, he'd probably be getting at least $12 million per year.
So could have every other team in the NBA ... besides, he is not worth what he will get in free agency... not much of a loss.
Remember, when it comes to "centers", find fair market value with someone with similiar stats not a center, and add 3 million to that. Thats just the way it is with centers. In the 90's no one would know who Bynum, Blatche, Asik were. But today it pays to be over 6'10
ON SECOND LOOK, the contract offer isnt THAT bad I MISREAD the number before for some reason to be close to $10 mil/per $8 MIL per year for a center is managable. I don't think Jordan is a SURE slam dunk, but if Kendrick Perkins is fair market value, than that offer is okay.
