Patrick Patterson will be the most improved player on the Rockets this year. He was already a damn good looking rookie last year. This Bill Simmons fella is out of his mind.

I love Simmons's stuff, but that is completely insane. In fact, my guess is that he is trolling his friend Morey as a gag.

However, my guess is that Haywood ends up on the Rockets -- after being amnestied. Of course, that's what makes Simmons's trade proposal so ludicrous: why would Houston trade two assets to take on Haywood's ridiculous contract when that same player is almost certain to be cut via the Amnesty rule and then can be had for no assets and for a lot less money per year?

I would rather play Hasheem Thabeet and lose more games to get higher picks.

That is flat out insulting. Does he even know who Patrick Patterson is?

I'd decline Haywood and 2 1st rounders for Patterson.

As much crap as Simmons gives NBA GMs and owners in his columns, he'd make a horrible one himself.

That would be one of the worst trades I have ever seen.

Mostly agree. I think Haywood, Nene and Chandler would all be mistakes. Haywood's contract runs through 2015.

You know, BS was actually making some sense too before proposing that horrendous trade idea.

In theory, the idea of pursuing Chandler and forcing the Mavs to overpay (all the while secretly targeting Haywood, who is capable in his own right) him isn't all that bad of a strategy if we do, indeed, want Haywood. We'll likely get the better end of some sort of panic move after the reality of Chandler's huge recently signed contract sets in.

That said, I don't want either player.

Since we don't have a superstar as a building block the national media will always view us as a dumping ground for bad contracts and transitional deals.

we're not the lakers and houston has no history what..so..ever of making blockbuster trades so of course this trade makes sense for both parties involved. (insert rolling eyes smiley x10)

The whole "tax payer s&t" prohibition will have little impact on parity and the circus of star players threatening to leave town.

First, tax paying teams can still make regular trades for a star on the last year of his contract and threatening to leave (see Melo, CP, Dwight). Also, if a team really wants to get a star in the free agent market, they can certainly manage their contracts so that they get below the tax line (and probably even well below the salary cap like many teams, including Miami, did last off season) during the star's free agency year.

I like Simmons, but yeah, for a guy who considers himself an NBA expert he spends a lot more time studying Lebron's facial expressions than knowing the relative trade values of anyone who's not a top 30 player. Dallas would have to sweeten the pot for US to take Haywood's horrific contract off their books.
