Rookie max contracts, ie their combined max deals will be just a bit more than what the combined contracts of Kaman and Mo Williams are now. By then Kaman and Williams contracts will be off the books. This is pretty much a full MLE deal that won't hurt them.
If the guy never improves, stays exactly where he's at, is he worth 8-10 per? Because there's no guarantee that he gets better.
That should be his max right now. I'm not sure he'll do as well without Griffin next to him. Maybe with time.
Sadly, this would probably be a good deal for the Clippers (considering there's the chance he could get offered more). That said, I have little confidence in DeAndre. He has work ethic issues combined with a lack of post skills -- which is never a good thing whenever teams think you're worth $40M+ without them. It leaves very little incentive for you to work hard and try to improve. Dude is a prime 'get paid, stop caring' candidate. If you're the Clippers, you kind of have to keep him. That doesn't mean I envy them or their situation, though.
This guy is still way too young for me to form some over-arching opinion on him. I'd take him at 7 mil a year. His numbers are good and he's athletic enough, his footwork good enough and I feel like he understands the game and can learn some moves down low.
If your comparing the guy's physical abilities to Swift then your already making him a good prospect. This guy is a shotblocking center who would be perfectly fine dunking, rebounding and blocking shots for his career.. After watching his interviews he's MUCH more intelligent than Swift.. I'd love to have him... He has everything the Rockets don't have: Size, Athleticism, Shot-Blocking ability and the guy dunks the freaking ball...ALOT..
If I were running the Clippers office, I'd be killing myself trying to go all in for Howard: Jordan (S&T), Blake, Gordon. That's the best array of young talent the Magic could hope for, they get a box office guy, and can amnesty Arenas start moving forward. As for the Clips, it all starts with a franchise center. The rest takes care of itself.
This. That's a very solid/fair deal for him. I'd much rather have him at or slightly more than that price as opposed to Tyson Chandler or Dalembert and possibly even Nene considering his asking price is going to be really high. A near 7 footer that can run the floor, block shots and finish at the rim all while being only 23 with a plethora of untapped potential left. What's not to like? I'd give him 5 years/45M easily.
Uhh the Clippers are NOT going to give up Griffin, Gordon and Jordan for Dwight Howard lol. Especially Blake Griffin. He's their cornerstone franchise player. The only reason why Dwight would want to go to the Clips would be to play with Griffin and hopefully Gordon as well not Mo freakin Williams.
"A plethora of untapped potential left?" This is where many of us disagree and where the Stromile Swift analogy comes in. Neither guy has (or had) much talent. After 3 years, Deandre Jordan hasn't shown any inkling of developing himself. The reason he had such a "breakout" season (going from 5/5 all the way to 7/7 ) was because it was a contract year and Blake Griffin's intensity rubbed off of him. The Clippers need to add CP3 even if it means giving up Eric Gordon. He might keep a re-signed Jordan motivated and interested.
He got to play a lot more due to Kaman being out.....I don't think he is a great player but he is a good fit for them and the Rockets. DD
Well.... First there is the issue with his lack of work ethic. Second their is his poor spacing and general lack of basketball IQ. Third there is the fact that he is actually a poor post defender.

At age 23 I refuse to believe he's fully developed his skill-set. I don't think Stromile Swift is a fair analogy. Swift actually got worse as his career progressed. At least Jordan shows he has a pulse and improves. Also, you're comparing apples to oranges. Swift was a tweener in that he wasn't strong enough or big enough to play center yet he didn't have the necessary skill set to play PF. He was just a bad basketball player all around. Jordan is a legit center that can protect the rim and block shots on defense and finish at the rim on offense and grab boards. I don't think it's far fetched for him to become a low end double-double guy in the next couple of years. 11 points/10 boards/2.5 blocks is not out of the question.
Not trying to say Jordan is going to bust out but sometimes it pays off sometimes it doesn't. Definitely not NEVER.
