Well i have heard what many of you have to say about the good ole Rockets and you all know how i feel...sorta. I would just like to go on record saying that i really like the team that Morey has put together. They have the perfect mix of offense and defense needed. They have the perfect mix of youth and veteran leadership that they need. They can go big or small and not sacrifice the defense or offense. There are so many combinations that this team can throw at opponents. They currently have 8 scorers on the team(Martin, Lowry, Patterson, Scola, Flynn, Dragic, Lee and Bud). 5 of those players are two players(Lowry, Lee, Dragic, Flynn and Patterson). The rest are good defenders. We have a pretty good team, when you take off those superstar only glasses and really look at it. Someone posted somewhere, something like, to repeat the same something and expect different results is insane, or something like that(sorry for that). Not in this case. For the past two seasons we have been repeating the same motion(no Yao, no T-Mac), but getting better. Those results culminated into a very good run after last seasons all-star break. Even one of the best teams to do it. Even Bima agrees to some extent that the Rockets should stand pat or in the words of the great clown prince of rap, Lil Wayne, call they sh*! Patricia! Coach
Chasing after CP3 or Howard would deplete the so much that they would leave immediately after the season ends. It also sounds as if Gasol/ Chandler/ Nene are asking for too much as well. This team can only get better with so much young talent on it.
Yeah im very excited about the team we have currently. If we play anything close to what we did after the allstar break then it should be a fun season.
I think I seen someone use the word 'magnet' earlier, and that is exactly what we need. We need that player that will attract other players. We get a player, bring them to Houston and treat them good, they talk to one of their free agent or disgruntled buddies, they join them in Houston with reupped contracts. Sign some ring chasers, and that's that.
I wish it were that easy, but the truth is NY and LA are big money showtime cities and currently look more attractive than Houston. That doesn't mean that they are. It's just media hype really. Just like this current gathering of stars on certain teams. It's really overated and overhyped. The Mavs proved that when they took one aging star and a team full of used-to-bes and beat the great three in Miami. Now everybody wants this player and that player to team up for their city not realizing that they will be stuck just like Miami is right now. They are this close to making the big three a not so big two. You don't need these guys when you have a team. Thats exactly what the Rockets have. A well balanced team.
Standing pat is NOT an option. This team is not a championship caliber team. We must do everything at our disposal in order to assemble one. If that means to gut this team and tank so be it. If that means to trade away some assets in order to attain a superstar so be it. Either way something must be done sooner or later.
Maybe Jordan Hill will bring consistent effort. Maybe McHale will wake Thabeet the slumbering giant. Maybe TWill will play up to his potential. Lot of maybes, but maybe we could be good with what we got-- if only every player brings intensity like Lowry's or Hayes's. You hear that, Bud? Ah, even now, hope springs eternal.
Biggest upgrades needed: center > sf > sg > pg > pf. Sign Nene and trade for Iggy. Lowrey/Martin/Iggy/Scola/Nene. Build it and they will come.
We have too many rotation ready players, and not enough playing time to go around, we need a 2 or 3 for one trade to clear some room. DD
Standing pat is acceptable for a short period but we have to get going towards WC finals and the finals. Upgrade the talent!
Wow, how can people even defend this idea is beyond me. With an upgrade at the Center position we are a playoff team, meaning that we would not compete for a ring nor for a top 10 pick. And to be sure, I am against tanking, I just think we are in the right position to upgrade the team, whether that upgrade is bigger or smaller we will have to wait, one thing is for sure, standing pat is not an option. And I like our players, I just don´t fall in love with them, you just can´t if you wan´t to win/upgrade somehow.
If we sign Nene and trade for Iggy we would still have plenty of assets to trade for CP3 OR Howard. Enough so that we would not need a sign and trade. And we would have the right trade assets - pg for CP3 or center for Howard. Maybe both? If one of them got here it would be difficult for them to leave. We possibly could compete for the championship this year.
Last season we were one of the top scoring teams in the league. Now couple that with the fact that we have to new assistant coaches(Finch,Sampson) who will be more focused on the defense than before. Our defense will be better this season.
I stand utterly amazed that people are content with this squad....or that they consider it a championship contender waiting to happen. Most of my friends laugh at me for being a Houston homer...but this is just off the charts to me.
Yeah, because dominate centers are so easy to find these days! Every team in the NBA has one except for every team besides Orlando. As far as the thread topic, we need to reboot this entire franchise. Don't make the same mistake the Astros made and put off starting from scratch until it's too late.
