considering the ridiculous asking prices for Gasol, chandler, nene, I'll take that deal. He blocks and rebounds at a high clip, and can finish strong at the rim. Thats enough for 10 million a year.
In other words, even after a lengthy lockout and intense collective bargaining sessions Same NBA since 1990 Jon Koncak, Jim McIllvaine, Jerome James, Samuel Dalembert, repeat, etc...
Does the Clippers have cap room? If not, then this is the best they can do. Kaman is as good as gone.
Hasn't DM already contacted Jordan's agent? When is Morey going to put in an official offer to DeAnder? He did say he would do so a few month back iirc. Although, he did sound pessimistic about the prospects of landing DJ, because he also stated that the Clips would most likely match the offer.
wow, a defensive role player getting close to 10 million a year. This is a middle class player, mid level or along those lines. The agents can skew their market value with all of them making crazy demands and some idiot GMs fall or have no choice to but to pay them since they risk losing too much(say for the clippers, reputation of other FAs bc they won't spend money, Blake griffin thinking they are taking steps back and not looking to build contender) etc so they have to just pay and not risk that. Really annoying to think these contracts still will hold fans stuck in markets and team improving for another 5 years. If he overplays, great, i'd like to see it like the NFL, less guarantees, more bonuses and incentives to hold accountability
Luxury tax $70 million Salary cap $58 million Minimum payroll $49 million Clippers payroll $45 million
Jordan will get $10 mil per season. M.Gasol will get above $15 mil. Or maybe Im determining by old cba market value.
Under the old CBA 5yr/$40M starts around $6.5M in the first year. So it would've been a slightly better than the full MLE deal.
I wish we could get him for 5 years @ 40mill, especially since there is still room for improvement from him. The guy has not had the best coaches, not the most experienced teammates. He could benefit so much from being surrounded with McHale, and practicing with Chuck Hayes. If you think about Chandler and Nene asking for the max, the significantly older Dalembert unhappy with the MLE (roughly 5M I believe).. This contract would be (on average) 9m per season. I imagine it starts around 7M and ends around 11M per season. Given the atrocious circumstances of the big man market, I would gladly give him that contract and put tons of resources into developing him. Then again, that's the contract the Clippers are offering. Certainly, they have already decided to match anything slightly above that, so we would probably have to offer 50m/5 years - and I would still consider that, especially in a sign n trade.
It just sucks that these bigs command so much money. We definitely took Yao for granted. There are teams that for many years never find a good center. I am not sure free agency is the best route in order to attain one. Considering the steep price for guys that haven't proven themselves.
That's pretty cheap compared to what we wanted in the past biedrins 11 mill, dalembert 13 mill, Haywood,Bynum. This teenager has a lot of potential and the price isn't that bad.
If they are setting the bar that low than I think its gonna cost at least 11-12 mil to get him. Kaman is definitely leaving and they already have ridiculous cap space. If the Rox really want him they will either have to throw some stupid money at him or hopefully get the Clips to sign him to something that makes sense and offer a trade.

He'll end up getting more than that. Some team that had their heart set on Gasol, Chandler or Nene will end up making an impulse offer for way too much.
Griffin and Gordon are still on rookie deals. This deal is going to look even worse when the time comes to re-up with their stars
