Did I say it would win us a title or did I make it explicitly clear that we would be a better team with a real center than dropping Lowry for Paul?

Oh yeah, I just read my post again and I made it explicitly clear that we would be better off with a center than dropping Lowry for Paul.

Now do I think we would win more games with Nene inserted into the lineup than Chris Paul inserted into the lineup....I dare to say yes, or at least extremely close. I just personally see an upgrade at center being for more beneficial to everything this team does and their current skill set than I do the jump from Lowry to Paul.

Am I saying I don't want Paul? No, but only if I was sure he wasn't dashing off to New York. And I agree that superstars make it easier to get other superstars....but I'd much rather have that superstar come in at the 5 than the 1.

This move would obviously not be for team improvement but rather a business prospective. CP3 is a brand that could sell and is widely known which may land Houston more recognition. He is considered an all star. We here all know how good Kyle Lowry is but sadly not ESPN, TNT, and ABC etc. As a fan, we'd say who gives a "darn" what they think but I'm sure Les Alexander does not feel the same way entirely. That's just how the business works.

The business is still first and foremost...win games....get fans.

This isn't New York or LA where people just show up to watch good players....no one will give a **** if they can't win.

You'd be surprise how many fans show up to watch star players or good players on mediocre/ losing teams. See Nash after STAT in Phoenix, Amare before Melo, Ellis/Curry in GS, Evans in Sac, and even Paul in NO(they'd (hornets) drop dead a couple years ago without cp3). This is not accounting the extra media air time, contracts and other potential deals on the side that could land the organization/player some money.

"sources say Houston is in the mix for Carmelo"

"sources say Houston is in the mix for Bosh"

"sources say Houston is in the mix for Deron"

"sources say Houston is in the mix for Chris Paul"

See the pattern here? It's not that hard people.

Don't get your hopes up too high.

Lakers treating their championship roster like assets? They obviously have not read clutchfans. Because here we know that superstars don't want to play for teams that treat their players like assets. Dwight Howard and CP3 are surely disgusted at how the Lakers are treating their players as if they're nothing but animals.

Even if we did get Paul, he would probably leave anyway unless we made it far in the post season.

I think CP3 is on DECLINE as his knee injury has caused the arrow to point down for him.

    Go for Howard!

I know you'll get ripped for this, but I completely agree with you. CP3 is an overrated primadonna who will leave this team in the dust to go play with other overrated players and hurt us in the process. Kyle Lowry will grind out every game for this team at a very reasonable price. I really dont think CP3 is worth the gamble. The probabilities of him wanting to stay here are too low. I would rather fight our way out of mediocrity than sell off the soul of this team.

I would love Chris Paul, but if we have a chance at Howard, I'd like to see us go after him first. I'm not even all that big of a fan of Howard (but I love Paul), and I think Paul is a better and more valuable player (when healthy), but Dwight is just TOO perfect of a fit for this team... He would make us *instant* contenders to come out of the West, IMO... Depending on who we give up, of course.

... Either way, Chris Paul would be an amazing pick up.

Might be a nice pickup, but we would basically gut the roster to rent Chris paul for a season. Where is the ****ing logic there?

Why does everyone think we would have to gut the roster? What on earth is NY going to offer? Chauncey Billups? What is Orlando going to offer?

We can offer Lowry + young guys + draft pick and IIRC we can even absorb significantly more salary than they would send out.

Is that gutting the team? Then it's worth gutting it.

I know but we are in no position to be picky. Plus it is the GM's job to work the phones.

    Exactly!!!

Besides Paul is not coming here... PG is not this teams problem. This seems like another attempt to reach for a so called superstar. Why would Morey want to upset Lowry? No loyalty...

sigh... sadly you're absolutely right. all this speculation means nothing. i'm not going to waste my brain power contemplating if i think long term lowry is better than potentially just a 66 game chris paul rental (and thats if he stays healthy). its better to just wait to see what happens before getting all antsy in our collective pantsies. if this somehow turns into chris paul and dwight howard on the rockets (whether that be this year or next), i seriously doubt anyone will be complaining about losing lowry, as big a fan favorite as he is.

anyway, cant wait for friday. lets see what actually happens with all these potential deals!
