I am about to lose it on some ESPN analysts disrespecting our team now. I better go before I write some stuff about these hacks.

I read one time they had the Jazz above us the other day and the Jazz dont have Deron Williams anymore or Jerry Sloan and we had a better record than them already last year. Ridiculous. Cant stand these hacks any longer.

BS sounds like a kid, thinks like one, writes like one. Grantland is garbage only slightly better than Rick Reilly and his idiotic opinions.

The thing you have to realize about Bill Simmons is that he has a Boston Red Sox mindset; players are all but worthless if they don't produce in the playoffs, young players who aren't going to be superstars should always be sacrificed to make a playoff run, and future draft picks don't mean anything unless they're guaranteed to be a lotto pick.

For example, here's a gem of a trade that 2002 Bill Simmons says is "defensible":

Here's 1998 Bill Simmons discussing the Kenny Anderson-Chauncey Billups Swap:

I like Bill's stuff generally, but keep in mind that everything he writes is from a Boston Celtic fan perspective. Columns like this one have no sources or inside info; all you're doing is reading a BleacherReport article whose author is getting compensated by ESPN to the tune of a typical NBA lottery pick.

BimaThug, can you confirm whether or not the prohibition on 5-year sign-and-trades only kicks in in 2013, when teams over the luxury tax will be prevented from making such moves? I can't pin down an exact source that states S&T this offseason will be limited to 4 years, 4.5% raises; Simmons has doubled down on stating that a 5 year S&T is possible, and I'd assume since Grantland.com actually wrote a CBA piece, he knows what he's talking about?

    Good take.

You can't exect someone who doesn't follow every team (or your team) closely to really know the value of everyone on your roster. Simmons is an entertaining general sports writer writing from a fans' perspective, not someone who studies every obscure player-- and yes, Patrick Patterson is pretty obscure outside of Houston. Remember, most of us don't really know what's up with most players getting 20 mpg on other teams. From the outside, Pats just looks like another guy getting 6.3 points and 3.8 rebounds a game.

At least someone is thinking. Everyone else is cry for a damn center but when opportunity knocks they just cry more. The trade itself is sorry. But the fact that its out there is something. Thabeet and the BMiller exception and a second rounder I would do, maybe a tid but more

I enjoyed the article. It is overpaying for a C, but what other options are out there? (The additional future first is too much, but protect it enough so it eventually becomes a couple 2nd's certainly seems fair)

    this.

also, his take on dalembert is refreshing. makes me feel a little bit better about us being his top choice

"Sam Dalembert: Past two seasons: 160 games, 25 MPG, 8.1 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 1.7 BPG, 51% FG, 73% FT … wait, what? Isn't that what I'm getting from Perkins/Jordan/Haywood?"

if we do get stuck.. i mean end up with dalembert I wouldn't feel so bad.

also, he mentions the clippers might be looking to basically give away kamen. if thats the case, i wouldnt mind the rockets getting in on that for peanuts.

My thoughts exactly. Most of the trade proposals have been utterly worthless. Not even discussing.

I can't imagine my hatred for the Mavs once 2Pat proceeded to light us up for the next 5 years.

I'm a big fan of Simmons, because he is funny and his columns are always so entertaining. He seems tireless, cranking out a lot of material on a regular basis. I think he is brilliant, but that doesn't mean he is an expert on all things NBA. He throws so many things out there in the course of having to come up with new material, that some things are going to be off base.

As for Haywood, I could see the Rockets picking him up for a amnesty waiver bid of $2 million per year.

Morey is adamant that we have to have flexibility.

Haywood's contract is an albatross, one that a championship quality team like the Mavs can afford to have but an up and coming team like us can't afford to have.

Haywood is a decent player, but not worth risking 2012 capspace over. At least a guy like Nene or Chandler can be flipped later, no team would touch Haywood's contract.

It's also not so far from what we are getting from Chuck Hayes.

The 5-year sign-and-trade is gone, as far as I can tell. Only four years is allowed, with 4.5% annual raises.

Simmons may be confused because, in the league memo, the ability of tax-paying teams to acquire players via sign-and-trade (allowed until 2013, then prohibited) is mentioned in the same paragraph as the sign-and-trade contract lengths (immediately applicable), immediately before.

Take a quick look at the "League Memo" linked to my article. It's the first item under Paragraph 11 (Free Agency).

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately!), Haywood's 2011-12 salary ($7.62M) is just BARELY too large to fit into the Battier TPE ($7.35M). That trade wouldn't work.

You know, I generally give national writers some slack when they don't value young players no one but local fans know about. It's just normal because there's no way in hell anyone can follow multiple sports and know all the people around.

Take out the whole Patterson and 1st thing. And there are a couple of things to take from here. One is that the Rockets can absolutely try to trade for certain overpaid centers on other teams. Morey has already tried with Biedrins, so what Simmons said is already being done. Another is offering Gasol the max. Although a huge gamble. If the Rockets really don't want to rebuild, this just might be the only path. Although it seems Morey would prefer to give Nene the Max instead. Same thing though.
