Loved the 4th down move. Leaving a FG to tie would be too easy for a competent offense. High risk, high reward, finally some big balls. Thank you Kubiak.
Sparks will fly only after we secure a playoff spot. I think Kubiak has made it pretty clear that until a win is secure, he is rightfully going to be conservative with the ball thanks to our defense. We need to clinch a playoff spot next week, so TJ can fling the ball for two weeks.
3 consecutive games, 3 different starting QBs, 3 wins. Methinks Kubiak just answered "The Kubiak Question" with a few exclamation points. Dude still has the same warts he had last season, yet he has completely won me over. It's amazing what a few W's will do for you.
I've been saying all year that Kubiak deserves an extension for the simple fact that we are 9-3 with key players on both sides of the field being out for extended amounts of the season. Winning 6 straight, 3 of them with 3 different QB's is a testament to Kubiak's ability to adapt to his surroundings. Him and that 49er's coach should be in the running for COY.
It was not so much the system to me it was the play calling that was baffling to me. now, I have faith in him. Kubiak is simply calling a better game to me Rocket River
In previous seasons his play calling had a lot to do with the defense being so terrible. Now, he doesn't have to worry about that. The guy is an offensive genius. Just look at the Broncos/Shanahan stats before and after Kubiak.
interesting thought. but to play devil's advocate, how would a bad defense motivate you, for example, to abandon your NFL-best running game against the Colts? Wouldn't you want to stay on the field more if you don't trust your D? Now, all that crap is ancient history. Just an interesting train of thought. I also don't believe it's out of the realm of possibility that Kubiak can simply be improving in several aspects of his coaching game. For the Texans' sake, I hope he is. It can only be a good thing if the coach progresses from good to really good, and maybe even better. Hey, a fella can hope!
Yep, I can see this now. Kubiak has always been a great offensive coordinator, now he can be free to do what he is good at, and let Wade run the defense. DD
Also a defense that actually produces stops gives the offense more chances. Remember last year when fans were upset that Kubiak's offense did not score on every single possession, especially early in the game? I am unsure if the Texans are any better this year in scoring first quarter touchdowns, but that complaint is no longer being mouthed by the fans.
I looked at all of Kubiak's past experience to make my judgement. The defense was so terrible before that I believe he felt he needed to put 40 on the board to get a win, so they threw the ball. I posted this in the Wade Phillips thread but is relevant here. He hasn't just all the sudden learned how to operate an offense. Our offense has always been good and at many times great under Kubiak. Key injuries, a lack of defense and bonehead plays are what cost us the playoffs in at least two of Kubiak's previous years. His offensive numbers don't lie. It is quite obvious that Richard Smith and Frank Bush were the problem.
But they had already beaten--no, creamed the Manning-led Colts, with that same bad defense giving Peyton 400+ yards, in week 1. It made no sense at all to abandon the run there. Don't see him doing that this year. Is it because the defense is better, or because he's getting better as a coach? Perhaps it's both?
Thanks guys. Too Many R. Smiths! I guess the previous DC was so bad I completely forgot about him I wonder if those two are working anywhere in the league Frank . . i think he was just not ready for the big chair [then again . . I cannot say his performance was great or not great from his previous position] ANYWHOO I just think Kubiak is calling smarter games His challenges are getting better I think alot of things have nothing to do with his defense. He literally made calls that just seemed silly but as stated. That is the past. I honestly think THIS TEAM can beat any team in the AFC Playoffs or not . . .. I worry most about New England not because they good . . but because it is fricking cold and snowing and isht when we play them and their pathetic weak schedule earned home field Rocket River
