I think people forget that T-mac only came to Houston because of Yao (Who was drafted at #1).... T-mac saw the light with a Kobe and Shaq duo and wanted to emulate that here.. He even said it himself that Yao/T-mac tandem was recipe for greatness.. Now going back to the original question? Tier 1 Players - No way do we have a chance. Tier 2 Players - Maybe if they will be the #1 focal point with Max or near to Max Dollars Tier 3 Players - Yes only to showcase themselves that they are capable of being a Tier 1 player (to seek Max Dollars)
Really it was up to him where he wanted to go.. Look at the reports, he was a prima dona even back in the days. He pushed it with mgmt and they caved. Everyone in the league thought we raped Orlando. Mgmt knew they had to do something with T-mac because his last couple of years in Orlando were interesting to say the least. It's hard to get what you want when they player will just say I won't resign there.
