Yes he does, for sticking with that zone blocking scheme, building the O-line & running game (which carries us)
I feel the Texans defense eventually evens out at top 5-10 range depending on the quality of offenses they face. They might not be giving up 7 points or 10 points when they stop facing Gabberts, Collins of the world. But they should hold most teams to 20 or less. It's really hard to accurately gauge their ability against top team depending on whether you think things like Saints 4th quarter was fluky or not. But given how badly they just destroy mediocre offenses, that's something only the best Defenses do.
Our offense was always good. Even gooder if you take into account how little they see the field due to their bad defense. The reason why our running game look so awesome this year is because we don't have to play from behind. It's much easier to keep the defense guessing when you have the run-pass option so they can't just tee off on either one.
He absolutely deserves it and then some. If he deserved the flak he took for the problems this team had in years past, then he should get plenty of props for what they are doing this year. Yes, Wade is a rock star for the incredible transformation of the defense, but the success of this team goes beyond just a good defense. If someone had told you a year ago that today Bob Costas would be on TV calling the Texans "the most resilient team in the NFL", you'd have thought they were nuts. Six game winning streak. Perfect November (historically the month of doom for this team). Significant injuries suffered at almost every key position. #1 and #2 QBs lost for the season. Multiple game injuries suffered at RB, FB, WR, OLB, FS and now P, not by regular rotation guys, but by our star/all pro players at those positions. This team in the past would have wilted faster than a strand of flax on a gas burner. Kubes absolutely should get his props for holding this team together and still keeping them a contender for the big prize. Great teams put together soul-crushing 86 yard drives on teams like the Falcons with a rookie 3rd stringer under center. Kubes is doing a GREAT job.
This is a pretty ridiculous statement. Kubiak isn't doing anything differently this year than he has in years past. Our offense (which he runs) is and will continue to be fantastic. The difference is, his GM finally hired an actual defensive coordinator to unleash the talent we've had the past several seasons. Hate on him all you want but Kubiak is one of the best offensive minds in the game, look at Shanahan's record since he lost Kubiak as his offensive coordinator. Since loosing Kubiak in 2006, Shanahan is 34-41 overall. In Kubiak's 11 seasons with the Broncos they amassed 66,501 total yards and 465 touchdowns, the most in the NFL. Kubiak has the offense he does today even though with the exception of Duane Brown in 2008, every 1-2 pick in our drafts since he has become head coach has been a defensive player.
Yeah, but none of that matters because he doesn't yell and scream and throw his players under the bus during press conferences.
We need a Cherokee coach to cancel out the Indian spirits under Reliant... Anyways, I just feel our success is 95% Wade. Did Kubiak even want to hire him? Or did he want to get another scrub buddy of his?
I don't like the shape of his chin. I think the team can do better with someone who has a more defined chin. Wade has done an amazing job of getting TJ Yates ready in basically 1 week.
I'm not talking bad about our offense in any way. The past 3 seasons it's all we had. But isn't it nice not having the balls in our hand up by 1 touchdown with 1 minute to go and not going oh **** we're screwed.
i liked how Wade's offense scored the go ahead touchdown so the defense can have a chance to stop Atlanta. and i also like how Wade's defense made Julio Jones drop the ball.
lol @ everyone piling on. We all know Kubiak has built a fantastic offense and he's pretty genius with QB. And he deserves credit for the culture on this team right now, and for some of the personnel decisions, and for good playcalling yesterday. But without taking any due credit from Kubiak, the point of this thread is "Wade Phillips: damn, dude. Wow." Know what we had with the duly-credited and kudo'd Kubiak from 2006-2010? The Houston 5and7ers. Kubiak+Wade = DOUBLE-DAMN!!!
I don't think anyone has any problem giving credit to Wade Phillips... the dude worked wonders in a matter of months. With that said, you can't cheapen what Kubiak has done (and continues to do) on the other side of the ball. It takes a village, and half of the village has been doing their part for 3+ years, while the other half finally got off their asses.
I'm tired of the blind hatred towards Kubiak. What he has done THIS YEAR does deserve credit. The fact that no team in NFL history has won three games in a row with three different starting quarterbacks should tell you enough about the job that he, Greg Knapp, and Rick Dennison actually DO for this team. It's ok to admit that he's doing a good/great job this year.
I've been saying all year that Kubiak deserves an extension for the simple fact that we are 9-3 with key players on both sides of the field being out for extended amounts of the season. Winning 6 straight, 3 of them with 3 different QB's is a testament to Kubiak's ability to adapt to his surroundings. Him and that 49er's coach should be in the running for COY.
