I think if we can sign Nene, we can turn around and trade spare parts for a guy like Iggy. Thabeet/Morris/2012 #1/Flynn Lowry / Dragic Martin / Lee / Twill Iggy / Budinger / Parsons Scola / Patterson / D-mo Nene / Hill I think thats probably a 55 win team for the next 3 or so years. No superstars but a dangerous team fighting for home court in the playoffs.
I thought that's what we were going to pull off last trade deadline. If we do get a guy like Nene, Jordan, Chandler,... it lets me know we will be going after guys like Iggy/Granger.
Ok I have your answer. There are three guys similar to the situation the Texans had with Asomugha and johnathan Joseph and Cromartie at the same time. Morey needs to concentrate on these guys if Nene give him the cold should immediately. Tyson Chandler Marc Gasol Deandre Jordan Nene if possible. He needs to come away with one of those guys. I am starting to warm to Deandre Jordans potential if he gets playing time here.
I dont really get why people are willing to throw money at a player like Nene. Nene is a solid player worth having on a team, but he is definitely not a championship piece. Nene benefits from being a hyped lottery pick early in his career. He played well as a rookie but he did not grow as a player like many expected him too. As a matter of fact his numbers stayed virtually the same throughout his career. After 9 years in the league, Nene is on the downside of his career. It seems many people feel that a centers job is to be tall, but height does not help if you are not productive. Nene has been in the league for 9 years, and has never averaged even 8 rpg. His career average is .9 blocks per game. He has played on one of the highest scoring teams in the league for his whole career and shoots a high percentage, but has never averaged 15 pts a game. There is no real area where he excels or dominates or even greatly impacts the game. 14 & 8 with nearly a block a game would be great for a role player making 8 mil or less, but I doubt Nene will be signed for that amount. What the Rockets need the most is rebounding and shot blocking from a center, but Nene is below average/ average in those areas. Also, Nene averages under 60 games per season, so we still would need a backup plan. It is great for him that he did beat cancer though. I refuse to believe that the best we can do is 12 mil+ multi year deal for a player who has a max of maybe 4-5 years left for his career and only puts up 14/8 even in his prime. We might as well chase Varejao. How about instead we see if we have a younger guy with more upside that we can develop the many big men we already have up for a fraction of the price. BTW, even though Chuck Hayes is 6'6 and gets less minutes than Nene, he can still find a way to break 8 rebounds
We can't offer him 12 mil. We can only offer what would be his appropriate value. I think in 35 minutes he can be a 14/15 - 9 guy. He's not a great rebounder but he can protect the paint, he's one of the best centers defending the p&r and helping from the weak side. You can have on the bench a different profile of center (taller, better rebounder and shotblocker) to backup him and it's ok. But he would improve the team and could attract better players. Eventually you might even move him to the PF position... For 8-9 mil, he could be a very good signing.
I am usually very positive but I'm starting to get a feeling that this season is going to be no different than the last. We are almost certain to strike out once again regarding any major free agent signings. We are going to have the exact same roster minus the Chuckwagon plus a few other scrubs and one or two rooks, yay..... Watching Morris and Parsons develop is going to be the highlight of these next few months and to make matters worse, D-Mo is not coming over this year. This blows, let the tanking begin!
Nene is going to get more money than he's worth, and I hope it's not the Rockets writing him the checks.
Just do nothing. Honestly in a weak FA class like this and you are a rebuilding team your best move is to not make a move at all. Why trade Morris? We don't even know what we have in him, we could be trading him for Iggy...and he ends up being better than Iggy. Sign Nene or rebuild...well we've been rebuilding all along so nothing will have changed.
ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein Rockets and Nets remain in hunt for Denver free agent Nene and are likewise expected to soon make face-to-face pitches to Brazilian as well
Are you aware he is looking for max money? I can't believe we are even considering him or Chandler. Maybe someone should send Morey another copy of Moneyball.
I think you got that the other way around, they want to play Nene at PF (his natural position). So if they make a run at Howard next year, they have Nene there ready to team up with him inside the paint. Not to mention it increases their chances at keeping Deron Williams.
I'll tell you EXACTLY how much the Rockets could be able to offer Nene or Chandler (barring a trade) . . . tomorrow. New salary cap update coming out tomorrow morning. Hope you enjoy it.
Nene and Dwight aren't a good fit together on the court. You'd want to pair both those guys with players like the original KMart or Scola.
