# of 1st round NFL picks & total picks since 2001: Ohio State: 17 (72 total) Southern Cal: 15 (73) Texas: 14 (48) OU: 12 (51) Try again on the whole talent thing.
Might it be that the talent he's getting he isn't turning into NFL material? A lot happens in 4-5 years.
Certainly could be - but there's no evidence that his recruiting classes have been a whole tier better than any of those other schools either. All of them consistently have top 10 recruiting classes. Conference championships are certainly a concern. But keep in mind - we're comparing him to some of the best coaches in college football. If he's even in that discussion - even if you put him just below those guys - it's hard to argue he's deserving of being fired. What are the odds you find someone better?
It would be different if urban Meyer was available but he is not. If we had a slightly above.average qb, we would have 10-2 or 11-1
We may have won the OSU game seeing how close that was for awhile. We would have definitely won the Kan St. game and Mizou if we had a average QB. we'd be sitting at 9-3ish. Who knows how the baylor game turns out if noodle-arm mccoy doesnt throw 4 picks?
Show me the recruiting numbers from those years. Mack isn't turning his talent into NFL first round picks and the ones that he does usually end up in trouble or have issues with structure/discipline, see: Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Vince Young, Roy Williams, etc... How gifted is Roy Williams as a receiver? Look at him in the NFL, the guy is a bum. No work ethic. Mack took these guys in, #1 recruits, everyone at texas treats them like celebrities. They don't have to work hard, they don't do much in the classroom and Mack just sits back, smiles, claps and gives motivational speeches. These guys coming out of Texas under Mack brown aren't prepared for the real world.
Guys like Priest Holmes, and Derick Johnson, or maybe Jamal Charles, or Jamichael Findley? Or maybe Brian Orakpo? A few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch .... DD
I don't know about picks, but Texas has the highest number of players in the NFL. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/colleges/
Do your own homework. I've already provided you plenty of data. All you're doing is making nonsensical, unsupported claims. Ricky Williams has had a 10+ year as an NFL running back. Cedric is working towards that. Every team has busts. Matt Leinart, Maurice Clarett, etc. Do you have ANY evidence that Texas has more busts than anyone else? You don't think that's the case at other schools? You think Reggie Bush wasn't treated like a celebrity? You think Lendale White was ready for the real world? You seem to hold Mack Brown to a different standard than anyone else. You make odd claims like "he only has 1 national title" as though that's a low number. Once that's proven silly, you just jump to another measure. You started with a conclusion you want to believe and are trying to fit facts around it. Figure out what you're trying to argue, provide some kind of evidence for it, and then we can have discussion.
I used to dog on Mack Brown a lot. He's not perfect but he has rebuilt the Texas brand to where we are competing for national titles every few years. That more than I can say for all but maybe 5 coaches. Of all the other coaches, none of them fit the Texas culture like Mack does. As much as some of things he does like keeping GDGD around makes me bang my head against the wall, I know Texas still has it pretty good.
This discussion about Mack is just ridiculous. He is 1 of 7 coaches (including USC) in the last 9 years to win a championship. Texas is 1 of 6 teams (including USC) in the last 9 years to win a championship. The UT, Alabama game was within a fieldgoal with 6 minutes left in the game, despite Gilbert's ****ups. Then it was 2 INTs by gilbert and a fumble. It is more than fair to say they would have beaten Alabama. At the very least it would have been neck and neck. As for the bull**** (he had VY, he had Colt) argument, why can't you say the same thing about everyone else? Pete Carrol had Matt Linerat and Reggie Bush. Chezik had Cam Newton Saban had Mark Ingram Urben Myer had Tim Tebow. Regardless of how you feel about him as a pro. He had 30 TDs passing and 12 rushing. Yes, Mack has had some great players. ALL freaking championship teams do. That is how they win freaking championships.
We need a QB. McAsh won't be the solution, I hope Connor or Overstreet have some of that "It" factor. To vent out some of my frustrations over this past season I decided to make this photoshop of a well known Oatmeal cartoon to represent recent Texas QB history. Enjoy. Hook 'Em.
