Corey Maggette is going to be the focal point of the offense whether you want him to or not.

    Best to just support it.

Funny that the Rockets probably had Morris ranked higher than Biyombo on their board anyways.

Smartest decision Bobcats can make this season.

    Hmmmm. Hypocrite, much?

Our team is way too deep to get affected much by injuries. We never had any good picks even after T-Mac and Yao got badly injured, let alone a Budinger injury or a Patterson injury.

Let's not insult Juwan like that. He's a professional that learned how to be a role player when surrounded by superior talent. Maggette is more like Eddy Curry, he'll take shots through triple teams and completely ignore his teammates. Even when he had Cassell, Cat, and Brand all he was concerned with was getting his.

Remember, the Rockets' pro-tankers are a year behind where Charlotte is now. The Rockets wouldn't get all that for THIS year. My point was that no superstar free agent wants to go to THIS Bobcats team (which just added the #7 and #9 picks), yet they think that the Rockets will somehow be better off with one of those middling lottery picks (not two) than to make the playoffs and potentially draw some REAL interest from around the league.

Also, I'm not so sure that Charlotte is a lock for a top-5 pick. There are a lot of crappy teams out there. You might be right, though. Regardless, that's one more bad team reducing the Rockets' chances of getting a top-5 pick.

Oh come on....who is to say they get a Bismack clone, it is an entirely new draft, they might get a Battier, or an Amare......

This is a silly argument Bima....you are usually much better at your arguments than this.

You obviously aren't reading the subtext, DD.

I'm not talking about Biyombo specifically or any player necessarily matching his description. Just that CALIBER of draft prospect. Certainly not a bad player at all. But not a franchise player by any stretch.

Nice jab, DD. But you ought to have known better.

But you are not factoring in the 2012 draft perspectus, that says it is one of the deepest drafts in years.

And it was not a jab at all, it was a haymaker !!

    BLAM !!

    ;)

Not like I'm pro-tanking or anything but I just wanted to make sure if you know who are Brandon Roy and more specially Rudy Gay, do they ring a bell?

Well, I think Patrick Patterson and Marcus Morris have a more resounding ring in most people's heads.

Anyway, not like we got that close to Brandon Roy, so ..*shrugs*

I completely support this decision. I have been waiting to see if Maggette can break his old record and the more he has the ball in his hand, the better his chances of breaking his old record.

    Here is his old record:

Let's all root for him in this upcoming season.

What are you trying to say? BR has broken down and I'd rather not pay Gay 20M a year.

Unfortunate thing with Roy, you can't control it; Gay is a little bit over-payed but you roll with him still. I'm tired of playing what if games, but imagine Roy with us in the Yao era; imagine having Gay now (even just as an asset)

And this is not my point, my point is: there are potential all-stars to be had at the 6th-8th range of a deep draft, and 2006 draft class was not even a deep one.

Roy with us during the Yao era would be meaningless, even Tmac and Roy together won't get us past the hump if Yao breaks down year after year. More importantly, right now we would be saddled with Roy's max contract instead of having some flexibility in 2012. I can't really imagine having Rudy Gay on the roster because we traded him away for Battier willingly. No matter how many times you turned back time Morey will trade Gay for Battier every single time, so unless DM wasn't the GM (or assistant GM) we won't have him on the roster no matter what.

As far as potential all stars go, nobody is denying that the lottery can have some amazing players. But at this point in time, we're just too good to get a top 5 pick, and I'd rather not take two steps backward and gut my roster just to get a high lottery pick, esp. since any sort of rebuilding will set us back at least 5 years. If the draft is deep, then all that really means is you'll have less benefit from tanking. I'd rather tank on a shallow draft class rather than a deep class, because in a shallow class all the talent goes to the top 1-2 picks, like in Yao and Amare's class where they were like the only good players. In a deep class, you can get quality players even with a lower picks, like when we drafted Landry and Brooks with a low 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder.

The Bobcats are in full tank mode if Maggette is going to be the focal point of their offense.

Also, for the people saying that the Rockets will end up with a Bismack Byombo clone if they tank this year, they're not taking into account that this is projected to be a very deep draft filled with talent.

Rudy Gay does not make $20 million a year nor will he ever make $20 million a year under his current contract. I know you love Shane Battier and will trash Gay at all costs, but the Rockets (read Morey) made a pretty big mistake in not keeping the clutch Rudy Gay when he fell into their laps and trading him for a role player type that is readily available through minor transactions and free agency. I will say this Rudy Gay is 20 million times the basketball player than that scrub Shane Battier you idolize will ever be!

    TOTALLY AGREE BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THAT MOVE COST T-MAC AND YAO THEIR CAREERS AND LEGACIES; IT ALSO INVALIDATED A WHOLE DECADE OF ROCKETS BASKETBALL.

IF ONLY MOREY CAME ON BOARD A YEAR LATER...

    ^^^^^^^^

I MEAN BY "INVALIDATED A WHOLE DECADE OF ROCKETS BASKETBALL", WHAT I MEAN IS HOW IT GREATLY JEOPARDISED THE POTENTIAL SUCCESS OF THE FOREVER-GREAT T-MAC-YAO ERA. Shane Battier didn't contribute a lick of success to the Rockets.
