intel 2500k for cpu for sure.

GPU up to you, do note though AMD 7000 series has expected release date of Q1 2012 (Jan?) and the new 28nm die shrinks should have significant improvements in performance over current 40nm technology.

Id just get something to cheaper (1GB 6950, or 6870 even) to tide me over if you really cant wait just a bit longer.

New games hardly care about your CPU at all.

If your monitor is 1920x1200 or over, your CPU can be pretty old.

Wow plz don't misinform people like that. I am not trying to sound rude but you are wrong. You are going to bottleneck with an old cpu trying to play on high settings. Your gpu usage will drop bc the cpu will struggle relaying data to the gpu.

I don't have ssd's. I do have a few things I didn't list, but not ssd. What's crazy is that my wd hd are listed at 239.99 a piece. The price has gone up. What is the going rate for ssd, these days? 250, max?

    Patriot Torqx 2 SSD

Would double up on the ram and the SSD... Would wait to buy a regular hard drive until the prices drop. 128gb + whatever external usb drives you have lying around should hold you off. Comes out to 570 shipped, but you'll need an oem windows 7 of some sort. $470 with only 8GB ram and 64 GB hd.

Motherboard supports crossfire but not SLI.

    Asus ENGTX580 DCII
    AMD 1090T (6cores)
    Intel X25-M 160GB SSD
    6GB Ram

Freaking really regretted to going with AMD motherboard because of the stupid Bulldozer failure. But overall I love my system. With all the research I finally have confident in Intel SSD drive and went for it. Best upgrade I ever did with the going with SSD for my main OS over my 150GB WD 10000RPM raptor now acting as a secondary drive. The Asus ENGTX580 DCII is a freaking beast and have no problem at anything I throw at it. Only problem is the damn thing will heat up your room by 3 to 4 degrees.

If you people want to go with the most reliable SSD go with either Intel or Crucial and stay way clear of OCZ.

    this is what you'll want

    i5 2500k
    8 gigs of ram
    650w+ psu (get modular)
graphics card around $200 (wait for the nvidia holiday sale)

you learn so much by building your own PC, very valuable experience, i learned a lot the first time i purchased a nice mid tower case for better air flow, unplugging everything and transferring into the new case taught me a lot about how my computer hardware functions
