I respect your opinion but I think you are a little confused. Morey did not stress height because he had a 7'6" center getting 30+ minutes a game... now the dynamics are different.

Lowery is not an average athlete... he is well above average.

    No, he isn't.

He is a 6'0 fire plug of a competitor who is not very quick laterally, doesn't have a lot of lift in his jump, but will scratch and claw with anyone to try to win the game.

His competitve fire is what makes him an above average player, but athletically, he is nothing more than average for the NBA.

I like a lot of your posts DD but your ability to judge talent in a point guard is highly suspect.

Lowry is going to be an elite point guard if he isn't one already.

I think he is a very good PG, no doubt about it, but the only thing elite about him is his competitive fire.

I like him a lot, but if Chris Paul (who is an elite PG) was available you make that switch in a heartbeat.

Lowry is good, he will maximize his talent, he is like Scola & Hayes, all of those guys will maximize every bit of ability from their bodies, but in the end, they will never be at that elite level, just good solid NBA players.

Lowry is no Derrick Rose, but he is every bit as athletic as CP3 and Deron, in his own way.

Dude is as strong as an ox... And his hands are Bird esque on defense...

Lowry is as athletic as CP3, but not Dwill......but both of those guys are better than Lowry.

Look- I know folks like him, and he is the heartbeat of this scrappy team, but let's not make him something he isn't....

He is a good starting PG in the NBA, someone that will out work, and out hustle, and out compete most other players in the regular season.

And, you can win a championship with him as your starting PG.

But I would never call him elite, but he might make an all star game at some point.

I don't. I've watched CP3 dominate on one end and coast on the other too many times. I've watched him quit in a game when the outcome was decided. I've never seen him "lock down" on defense for more than a play or two. I've listened to stories every off season about him wanting this or that or trade me here or whatever other whining he's doing. CP3 is weak minded on par with somebody like Melo, I hope they partner up in NY and win a lot of regular season games together.

There are point guards out there I would trade Lowry for but CP3 isn't one of em, not for this team. Lowry has the mindset of a champion and I don't think CP3 does.

A lot of times people judge a players athleticism based on how high they jump, and it is not that simple. An example is James White. He could jump out of the gym, and everyone drooled over his supposed athleticism.... but in reality he lacked the ability to maintain body control after contact and did not have the burst to seperate from a defender.

I can see why you would say Lowery is not a great athlete in that he does not have a 40 inch vertical, but he is EXTREMELY good at getting seperation after contact, hence going to the line... he is an amazing athlete maintaining body control and has excellent stamina.... which to me are a component of athleticism.

Lowery will probably never be as good as Paul at his peak, but it will be more skill based than athleticism based.

Chris Paul's body is a disaster... he is already breaking down... it is scary to think where he will be in 2-3 years. Everyone will take him because when he is "on", he is a top 2-3 player in the NBA.... but like T-Mac, I do not think his body will let him play at that level for much longer. Last year he seemed to have lost a gear and at some points was not even a factor, something that was unheard of 2 years ago.

I don't think you really understand the value of Paul.
He is the quintessential PG. He is elite at passing, finishing, BBIQ, shooting, handles and everything else that you would want your PG to have. He understands the game.
On top of that, he is on par with Kobe in terms of competitive spirit and hating losing.
CP3 is elite not because of his athleticism like a Rose. He does it in a Lowry-like frame. History has shown that skilled PG can be very effective even without standout athleticism. See Nash, Stockton, old-Kidd.

Paul when healthy is a top 3 player after Lebron and Dwight.
Last year, while he was still recovering from knee injury, he was still a top 10 player at worst.

Meh, Lowry definitely isn't an elite PG... and he probably never will be.

But if you took away the elites (CP3, Deron, Rose, Rondo, and maybe Westbrook), I'd easily feel comfortable taking Lowry over the rest of them.

Weren't you against a CP3 trade when Brooks was the starter?

No he's not. Have u seen paul explode by a guy and just drop the ball over the rim? I've never even seen lowry dunk the ball even in college. I've seen paul throw it down on guys. It takes a lot of energy, but paul is more explosive as an athlete than lowry. As DD stated, lowry is tough and he competes, but he's not nearly as talented as paul, williams or guys like that. Hell, derek fisher was more athletic than lowry.

Yeah he's not. U usually see him go into the paint and make a layup, because he doesn't have the explosiveness to get up over the rim.

Usually the highlights will showcase dunks if the player is athletic. If the player lacks leaping ability and explosiveness, you won't see any dunks.

Here's Lowry's highlights. The author clearly had a hard time finding any dunks to add to the mix. If we are going to see his athlecism showecased, it would be here.

Lowry is as good as he is because of his intensity, fighting abilities and never say die attitude. On talent and skill alone there are at least about 7 PG's better than him and that does not make you elite in a league of 30 starting PG's. I admire Lowry but I feel he is being overestimated on these forums.

Paul, DWill, Rondo, Westbrook, Rose, Wall, Curry all have a good case to be better than Lowry

Developing and drafting centers requires a center to be available when you actually draft them. Its not like there are all these Hakeem clones just waiting to be plucked and developed.

As far as whiteside, jordan et al are concerned, none of those guys have enough bball IQ to stay on the court for an extended period of time, so I'm not sure what everyone is b****ing about. Jordan will make around 10M this year just for being Griffin's buddy, does he even average 30 mins a game?

On CP3, this forum is just waiting to slobber all over any star that comes across. CP3 is making the max, and unless a player is truly franchise caliber he's not worth it. CP3 has the bball IQ and the skills but I think he's exactly like Lebron/Melo, he wants the limelight and endorsements more than he wants to win.

With Lowry, we already have an upper echeleon pg helming the team. Is he better than CP3, Dwill etc? Probably not, but he won't cost an arm and a leg to have on the roster, and he won't have offcourt issues like Rondo, or health issues like Paul/Dwill. Just because someone like CP3 is better, doesn't mean he's worth 3x the salary we're paying Lowry, that money could go into a position upgrade that will have a bigger impact on our team, namely the center or SF slot. CP3 has shown in NO he doesn't have enough talent to carry a sub-par team, I don't see how us trading for him will result in a better record than what NO has now.
