Of course I'd prefer McNabb to Delhomme in a vacuum.

However, is McNabb willing to be a backup? I really doubt he is.

I'm going to admit that I am biased as a McNabb fan so I would like to see him play again. He isn't nearly what he used to be but I don't think he is as bad as many makes him out to be. The games in Minnesota he didn't cost them the games, he didn't win them either, it just turns out MN is a bad team and while young Christian Ponder shows promise the team isn't doing any better with him than with McNabb. Possibly worse considering McNabb threw very few INT's while Ponder turns it over about twice a game.

I would like to see McNabb on the Texans and think at the minimum he will be a great back up for Yates.

There isn't a team in the league that would guarantee him a starting spot right now.

He wouldn't start over Yates unless TJ bombed badly - and since the next two games are expected losses anyway, it wouldn't be until TJ struggled against Carolina or Indy that Kubiak would look to make a move.

McNabb went unclaimed, so he is an option if things go wrong. That said, I disagree with the narrative that the next two weeks are expected losses, and I think Kubiak does too. Both - but especially this Sunday - should be wins by my book. If Yates struggles, I think Kubiak would have a quick hook well before Carolina/Indy.

Yeah, when you're 8-3 and have the best defense in the league, you shouldn't expect to lose to anyone no matter who is playing QB.

I guess we as Texan fans have just been beaten down so much over the last 10 years that we just can't accept the fact that we actually have a pretty good team this year.

McNabb remains unclaimed after 24 hours.

Absolutely. This team was a bonafide Super Bowl contender with Matt Schaub, and most agreed that they were a borderline contender with Matt freakin' Leinart. This isn't a Peyton Manning offense. It's an offense that thrives upon physicality and skill talent across the board. With that, the level of QB play to compete with Atlanta and Cincinnati isn't astronomically high.

There are a lot of Chicken Littles here, but I can guarantee you that every player at Reliant still believes this team can win a Super Bowl. They're not just trying to hold on for dear life. To win come playoff time, teams the caliber of ATL/CIN are the bare minimum for who you can expect to play come January. I don't think TJ would get the hook after one interception or one quarter... but if he struggles the next two weeks, I'm pretty confident Delhomme would be the guy by Carolina. Kubiak isn't just looking to survive the dregs of the league... he wants someone that gives them a chance to win in January. I hope and think TJ is that guy, but these next two weeks will tell a lot.

Well if he really wants a good supporting cast he'll come here, but if he wants anything other than to win, he will go to his home in chi-town

No one wanted to pay the remainder of his contract this year...$1.5 million, now they can pick him up cheaply.

Exactly...why pay that much money when they can get for pennies on the dollar as an insurance policy.

Now the Texans have no choice but to at least work him out and talk to him.

I would pick him for 2nd QB.
He could be a nice insurance for Yates.

Used to live in DC during the McNabb era, so here's my take:

-He's horribly inconsistent with short and medium passes.
-He's pretty decent at the play action roll out deep pass.
-Even at his age, he moves well and can escape pressure.
-He's smart enough to make reads, but he does a lot of stupid things.
-He's very prideful and has done things to put himself over the team. For example he wouldn't wear a wristband when Shanahan requested him to do so because he though it would make him look dumb. I'm not even a Shanahan fan...he's quite a pompous ass, but McNabb didn't help himself.
-He's had a bad rep for work ethic from Philly, and the same rumblings were occurring in DC.

That all said, I'd take him, because he's still talented enough and experienced enough to win with the right tools around him. He has tons of baggage. It's not Vince Young baggage, but it's legit heavy on-the-field/not getting along with coaches/not prepping properly type baggage. Still, this is about winning, and after reading that other thread with the Aaron Rodgers interview

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7295185/nfl-green-bay-aaron-rodgers-greatest-season-qb-ever-had

I'm convinced that winning big with TJ Yates is sooooooo difficult. It's possible, but this team has the chance to make a deep run, and in my layman's opinion, a talented vet like McNabb might be better suited to make that playoff run.

I don't think he will, but I still think McNabb should be considered.
