This excerpt from the article got me thinking... With the turn over of coaches our advanced stats will start to be revealed to more and more teams. While I dont have a problem with it, I do have a problem with loosing our competitive advantage and not to mention all the money the organization spent to develop this. I am surprised that RJ wasn't bound by some form of confidentiality agreement and I am also surprised that Kahn basically says it out loud.

I dont know if i am in the right to say this but Morey needs to do a better jump retaining past coaches or do a better job in keeping our secrets.

On another side, sharing the knowledge to everyone for free would eventually elevate the game. So Honestly, I dont know how to feel....

What competitive advantage? The Rockets are not an elite team, and their drafting success has been hit or miss just like every other team.

Advanced stats are nice, but until they lead to playoff victories, their true value is dubious at best.

We aren't the only team using advanced statistics. Besides, all the statistics do is confirm the information a good scout can provide while removing the illogical biases of the scout.

While that is true, Kahn now has an understanding what values the rockets puts on certain things. That being said, he could really sabatoge our efforts because they will have an understanding of what players the organization likes to go for. Kind of like playing poker with someone else knows your hand.

Then you have to be smart enough to know that they know and use that to your advantage.

It is not the data that is important, it is the people that INTERPET the data that matter the most.

Its not like we've been winning titles left and right with this new stats system so I think we are good.

Personnel moves go through Rick Adelman now.

Actually stats are biased, but only if you have a criteria that you interpret the stats from. Stats in them selves are not biased but there is a bias when using them.

ie: if you place a premium on offensive rebounds and you rate them higher than defensive rebounds, then there is a slight biased. The rating criteria has a bias which will interpret the stats in that manner..

If Adelman's son is bringing the stats to his new gig, then it looks like the alleged rift between Adelman and the Rockets front office having to do with use of stats was overblown.

Morey has already said that the difference isn't so much analysts, but rather data. For instance, if you want to defend Kobe, you actually have to scout just how well he shoots going left, going right, shooting off the dribble, etc. to accurate assess the situation. Many people can make the correct conclusion once they have the data. But obtaining the data is the difficult part.

I agree, but I do think our draft record has been a little better then other teams.

    Good Draft picks:
    Aaron Brooks - 2007
    Carl Landry - 2007
    Chase Budinger - 2009
    Patrick Patterson - 2010
    *Marcus Morris - 2011
    *Chandler Parsons - 2011
    *Donatas Motiejunas - 2011

    * [Each one of the guys we drafted are considered possible steals, all of them were projected higher then where they were taken.]

    Bad Picks:
    Joey Dorsey - 2008
    Jermain Taylor - 2009

I don't think Taylor was necessarily a bad pick. He played extremely well in Sac Town and was a pretty potent scorer until Marcus Thornton came and took over the duties.

They've all had talent but I think Dorsey was the only player that was not able to maximize his with the time he had here, he didn't even do much with Toronto either. So he'd be my only "bust" out of this group.

The thing is though that unless your draft picks make YOUR team better, they are not really considered hits......

Most of our picks get traded in a year or two, and most players do not blossom until year 3, in fact, only CBud has been here for his 3 years after the draft, wow - that is a lot of turnover...

The Rockets draft history has been great under Morey. Especially when you compare it to how we fared under Dawson, and take into account where Morey has been drafting.

Our non-elite status has way more to do with us being forced to build around the oft-injured Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady and never getting high lottery picks than it does with Morey's picks.

Both Dorsey and Taylor were 2nd round picks so they weren't really bad picks.

Watch out for genius R.J. "DWI" Adelman

You have to remember that Kahn is they're GM and not Morey.

It's not the Sword, but the one who wields it.

I maintain that most of the blame should be placed on Rudy T's undying obsession with soft finesse jump shooting bigs. He was forever trying to find guys that reminded him of his own game.
