Chuck lookin for some real money. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/hill_back_on_knicks_radar_kqrExe8Bm7gLL1BBWMezVP
If he gets $5 million a year, there is no way Morey should match that.....as good as he is on defense he is just not worth that sort of cap hit. DD
He won't take it. Chuck is looking for his major contract. He wants the security of years and who can blame him. I hope he get's MLE for 3 years....somewhere else.
Good choice for him. D'Antoni probably isn't the best coach for him, and a 1-year deal wouldn't be a good idea in that situation.
I think he'd accept less money, per-year, if he's guaranteed multiple years and its a good fit for him.
Maybe, but the total would have to be over the $5 million, he already turned down a bigger longer term deal from the Rockets in terms of total money. DD
It's interesting that Chuck's agent doesn't mention the Celtics, who most likely only would be able to offer $3M/year for 3 years. The Blazers as of right now also would only be able to offer Chuck the tax MLE, but if they were to amnesty Roy they would be able to offer him the full MLE. It was also reported that Chuck wasn't interested in a 1 year $5M deal to play for the Knicks. So... he's looking for a muli-year deal and wants more than $3M/year. The Raptors, T-Wolves & Kings have more than enough cap space to offer him that. Also, F U Adelman.
If I were Morey, I would use the fact that the Rockets are the only team that can offer a 5th year and a 7.5% raise to my advantage. For example, a full MLE deal from another team would be 4 years, $21.4 mil (starting a $5 mil, with 4.5% raise). A deal from the Rockets starting at $4.3 mil a year can be 5 years, $25.0 mil. This is not to say that these are the exact contracts to be offered to Chuck, but the point is that the Rockets can offer a deal that starts at a smaller salary but is still economically comparable or favorable to a deal from another team at a big salary. So, if Chuck really wants to stay in Houston, there are ways to keep him here without having him having to sacrifice huge amounts of salary.
As much as I want Chuck to stay and get paid, he will only get low-balled here in offers. The Blazers would be a very good fit for Chuck with Oden being a question mark, Camby getting older and more injury prone (maybe even traded), and Roy being amnestied. Wallace and Chuck on the court at the same time would be scary on the defensive side. I'll always root for Chuck whether he stays or leaves. How can you not root for him?
Morey will give him the extra years he wants... He is tooooo good as a trade asset to let him walk for nothing...
