Why do the Rox sound so high on this guy? I remember looking at him more after he was drafted, but I'm having trouble finding the allure. Would he play SF or PF? There's no room as a PF and isn't SF manned by Budinger/Twill/Morris? Maybe we've decided to trade or cut someone and this will give Parsons some playing time. What does he bring us as a player that made us want to bring him back to the states rather than stay overseas?

My guess is he makes Bud expendable. Chase has his role on this team no doubt, but his value may be more as a trading "piece" or "asset" considering his production and his very small salary.

There is nothing great about him. He will be a scrub at best.

He plays defense better than Budinger already. I expect him to take his job.

I saw him play at that charity game a couple weeks ago. He was drilling 30 footers before the game and threw down some nice dunks in game. Not saying he looks like a star or anything, but give him some time I bet he turns into a nice roleplayer.

There's really no need for him with Budinger already here. They're too similar.. but if Budinger is traded though, that makes more sense.

Why does everyone keep comparing Chandler Parsons and Budinger?

Parsons can take people off the dribble, make plays for others and pass the ball, Budinger is a better pure scorer and is best moving off the ball cutting to the basket or draining open 3's.

Doesn't sound redundant to me at all

Oh man...really? Most 2nd round picks bust out, it is more likely that happens to Parsons than he takes our starting SF's job.

He's a better defender and moves well around the court. Budinger isn't a starter in the NBA so what I mean is that I see Parsons staying and Budinger being traded.

Really... since it sounds like most of you have never watched a minute of Parsons play on the court.

    First off

    - 6'10" with the skills of a SG/PG.
    -excellent passer
    -excellent playmaker for others
    -good rebounder
-mediocre to good 3 pt shooter
    -good footwork, and footspeed
    -good defender, not great
    -excellent team player/attitude

    negatives

-fell in draft due to lack of effort in draft combine
    -moderate athleticism
-moderate strength in post(for a PF)
-too much of a team player(passes too much)

Please do not compare to Budinger, he is a very different player. I think the Rockets got a solid player in Parsons who could find himself in the Rotation very early given his mature nature and solid skillset for a rookie. He's not a post player yet, but has the frame to potentially be a Brad Miller type of big if he gets stronger on defense. If he stays lean then he has the quickness and footwork to defend on the perimeter.

Our starting SF also happens to be a second rounder, who got a starting job through Battier's trade.

I thought he did well as a starter. He averaged like 15-17 ppg in the starting lineup last season. He was never a good defender but I think he improved under the tutelage of Battier. That being said, we should definitley look for an upgrade.

This is a little better look at Parsons. Its prior to draft combine...

Personaly I think if he improves his shot, he could be as good as Hedo Turkoglu (Minus the oversize contract) and a little better defense.

    I agree I don't think he'll take bud's starting job.

No, the one who's taking Bud's starting gig will be Marcus Morris!

Budinger's opponents had a 12.7 per against him, which is pretty good defensively, he just forces guys to shoot long jumpers and is not as good as Shane, but his D is pretty decent, better than most folks think.

They see that both are white and tall so they come away thinking they are the same kind of player.

There are so many factors to contribute to that... its not just one singular thing.
