Chandler was a perfect fit on the Mavs last season. Without him, they are not contenders. I still think something might get worked out, but if another team offers him near-max money, he's outta there. This sounds like public posturing to me. 50/50 he re-signs with them.
This. Apparently Chandler comes from the David Stern School of Negotiating. He's just reminding Dallas where they were before him.
It sounds like a bluff. If it is only about the money and not championships, I can see the multi-billionaire Brooklyn Nets owner picking him up. Dwight and Chandler would be a sweet frontline.
Chandler is NOT worth the max or anywhere close to that. I don't care if he's 7ft and helped the Mavs win a championship. He's a fake tough guy that always seems to be hampered for stretches from a minor injury and I know stats aren't everything but he only averaged 1.08 Blocks per game last year. That made him tied for 27th best in the league (with Kris Humphries) which is downright pathetic considering you're supposedly an athletic 7 footer. Not only are we looking for legit size I know we've always craved a legit shot blocker. Chandler is NOT it. It's no surprise why Morey would pass on his asking price.
I like Chandler but everything you just said is true. He is a good center but if I'm gonna overpay let me get Nene instead. (who also comes with injury/illness issues but is at least interesting.) With his skills he should at least be a poor man's Mutombo.
For how many years? That is the question. He's only 29 but has played 10 years and his injury history isn't encouraging. Unless a team is gunning for a championship this season or next, Chandler ain't the answer.
Is Chandler or Nene even top 5 centers in the league to be asking for 10-12 mil a season...? I honestly don't know the answer to that question. The best center in the league is Dwight and after that they are all mediocre.
I don't think you need to be a top5 center to warrant 10-12 million. Skilled centers such as Chandler who can anchor your defense are a valuable commodity in the NBA. Teams will pay money to obtain him.
I wouldnt mind picking him up. Might as well roll the dice and spend some dough to see if we can win some games. What else are we gonna do? Just continue playing the same young'ns and wish we had a star? Lets just ****ing make a move, take a risk, do something to get something different going. **** IT!!!
Yes, teams with a clueless GM or a team that's on the brink of a championship will pay his asking price. Neither of which fits the Rockets profile.
With our luck he would break both tibias on the plane ride over. This team can't afford to take risks on brittle people anymore.
There is a salary cap- do you think max contracts for Nene, or Chandler would make the Rockets championship contenders?
Check out this remark from a Boston writer on what the Celtics need most. A center. According to Hollinger, Glen Davis qualifies as the starter, and he's not actually a center at all: He's a severely undersized power forward. The oft-injured Jermaine O'Neal, meanwhile, could be lost for the season if somebody turns the water pressure in his shower up a little too high. Not a lot of depth there. LOL.
I would take Chandler if we were planning on adding the other significant piece it would take to POSSIBLY contend like an Iguadola or Granger. Chandler really would be a nice fit though and I can see him working with both Scola and Patterson really well. If Chandler would sign for 11 million a year I could see that although IMO it is over-paying a bit. Chandler would just do so much to address our current flaws. I would probably take Nene over Chandler but Chandler may be the better fit. Sign Chandler and deal Morris+Thabeet+Williams and Flynn for Andre Iguadola. Resign Chuck Hayes. Chandler/Hayes Scola/Patterson Iguadola/Budinger Martin/Lee Lowry/Dragic Surround Scola and Martin (both masterful scorers) with three defensive beasts and supplement the defense when you bring in Patterson and Lee.
