Yes, but Vince won a national title. His stock literally couldn't get any higher. RG3? No. Plus Vince said all that stuff after the year was over (only started saying it after the "go pro" rumors started), RG3 has been adamant about staying long before this season began and has remained consistent about it throughout. Luck said the same things at the same time, and I believed him too. I don't think Vince is a good example to compare to.

    Suffice to say, I disagree.

The program that is the biggest threat to Baylor in taking Briles is Tech, and that's a non-factor at this point.

Uh... so RGIII is staying at Baylor because he will win the national title next year?

    A. Not going to happen,
B, even if Baylor makes it all the way ot the mighty Cotton Bowl next year, it's not likely to do much to improve Griffin's draft stock which is pretty much maxed out, unless he grows 3 inches.

You seem to exhibit a high degree of faith in people staying put due to loyalty rather than cashing in on chances at money and fame, which are fleeting. Reality shows otherwise.

I don't think his draft stock is maxed out. He could be the #1 overall pick next year.

If he goes nuts and trashes Texas and wins the whatever bowl, he might be a top 10 pick and leave. I'm not sure otherwise.

My thinking that Sumlin, Briles, and Griffin aren't going anywhere has nothing to do with loyalty, Sam. I thought for sure that Vince was gone after the Rose Bowl.

I'm guessing that the circumstances (timing, money, preference, etc.) just aren't in favor of any of those particular guys leaving, as it stands right now.

We'll see what happens during the off-season when his draft grades come out, that should tell us a lot more.

He may not want to leave, but I think he'll get offers. Here's Baylor's recent history:

    2002: 3-9
    2003: 3-9
    2004: 3-8
    2005: 5-6
    2006: 4-8
    2007: 3-9

    Hire Briles

    2008: 4-8 (No Robert Griffin)
2009: 4-8 (little bit of Robert Griffin)
2010: 7-5 (lots of Robert Griffin)
2011: Potentially 10-3 (lots of Robert Griffin)

That's a pretty amazing turnaround, though it's unclear how much of it is purely RG3.

Yeah, if he wants to stay in Texas, he's pretty much set - unless A&M gets into the market, maybe?

Problem is, the offers won't be a significant raise, and it will be from programs outside of Texas, and in some cases, likely outside of the central timezone altogether. I find it hard to see him getting an offer, and I find it harder to see him taking one.

Griffin is more likely to leave than he is, but as of right now, I don't put him in the "likely gone" category.

Oh yeah - if he leaves, I don't think it will be for money. It would be because he thinks he has a better chance of winning elsewhere, as opposed to Baylor where he probably has a pretty low ceiling. That said, I originally didn't know about his desire to stay in Texas, so if that's really that strong, that certainly changes things.

I thought he might want to stick it to Tech. But I think WSU is a better job or atleast an easier conference and hes a better fit on the west coast...

Makes sense. They have a good offensive foundation for Leach to work with in quarterback Connor Halliday and wide receiver Marquess Wilson.

Wazzu also seems like the right type of place for Leach. It appears to be a more laid-back atmosphere that will celebrate Leach's eccentricities rather than stifle them. Plus, since they have been down for so long that the honeymoon phase will be longer than normal, even for WSU.

I feel for schools like Illinois and Kansas. Those aren't great jobs, but they have both had their moments in the spotlight in the relatively recent past. Because there are so many vacancies this season, those two programs aren't going to get a chance to even talk to some prospective head coaches that they might have in a normal year.

Why doesn't a real team want Leach? WSU? Jesus. As bad of a program as they are, I bet the Pac 12 coaches are still worried about having to deal with that offense.

It does say he will be among the 4 highest paid in the PAC. That doesn't sound like a bad offer.

Dennis Dodd spells out the biggest reason:

The Kansas job won't have as much promise when they're in the Big East/CUSA/MWC within the next decade.

Realistically, if Leach has any success at either Kansas or WSU, he won't be there a decade from now anyway. I think WSU is a good situation for him - they are down now, but they aren't far removed from being a top 10 team, and the Pac12 is a great conference for his wide open offense. And the conference has had a lot of different dominant teams over the years, so moving up and down in that conference is not too difficult.

Plus he's closer to an ocean for his pirate ship.

It's quite remarkable how good he's gotten that team with mostly underclassmen.

It doesn't seem like many FCS coaches make the leap to FBS head coaches though. There are a lot of highly successful coaches that stay at a program for over a decade or longer (like Randleman at SHSU). I was watching a playoff game last week and I think it was James Madison who had a coach that was there for nearly 20 years, winning multiple national titles. I think guys like that are excellent at pegging local, say, 3-star recruits that would excel at that level...but it's a different story trying to recruit blue chips across the nation.
