He is no insider. I am. And I am only giving insider info to good posters. cuz that's what Morey tells me to do.
This. Do not want. Not at this age and not at that price. He's not even a true center. To me he's like the Brazilian version of Scola.
Nene wants a max contract, lol unbelievable. That is the best joke I have heard today. I wouldn't even give him the same contract we gave Luis. Sadly, some jackass GM might give him what he wants.
Really? His 14/8 would be a steal and Scola's 18/8 is not? I'll go out on a limb and say Nene won't average 14/8 again in his career.
Correct. Nene is a far more efficient scorer than Scola and has the size to play center. What're you basing this on? Nene has averaged 14/8 for the past 3 seasons...
First off, I never said Luis wasn't a steal at his contract. The Rockets got a good bargain for that price. But Luis averaged 18/8 on 15 shot attempts per game. Nene averaged 14/8 on 8 shot attempts per game. Nene has good size, better defense, and even though Scola is good around the basket, Nene is much better. If you feature him down low on offense (which has never happened for him in his career) I think he can easily be a 20 ppg guy.
Nene plays off other players and doesn't create for himself. That is why his FG% is high. He is easier to guard than Scola. Part of the reason is because he plays hard on a part-time basis. Scola is a superior low-post threat and doesn't need anyone else to set him up. You can go to him late in games in crunch time, which is when Nene disappears. If Nene played hard all the time like Scola, he'd average 14 rebounds/game. The guy has been one of the most frustrating players in the league (for me). A classic example is how he tailed off badly against the Thunder in the first round last year. UTAllTheWay, you are on Fantasy Island if you think Nene could "easily be a 20 ppg guy". He's never done anything close to that in his 9-year career. He doesn't have the motor for that kind of production on a daily basis.

On defense, Nene is definitely better. No doubt about that. Scola's best defense is indeed flopping.
He never touched the ball enough for that kind of production. If you put him in an offense where he's featured down low... where he gets 20 touches on the low/high block every game, he'd be around 20 ppg. Kind of like LaMarcus Aldridge. And if you give him that many touches and feature him in your offense, I'd be willing to put money down on the fact that he'd start to play harder on a more consistent basis.
I understand why you believe this, but Nene just is not that kind of guy. Some people here believed the same about Shane Battier a few years ago and I told them the same thing. The idea of having low usage, "efficient" players take a lot more shots sounds good, but there is a reason it rarely happens. Nene does not have the offensive instincts of Lamarcus Aldridge. Not even close. He doesn't want the ball 20 times/game. He doesn't want that much daily responsibility. When he does play hard and puts up a 20/10, you wonder why he can't do it all the time. It's between his ears. After 9 NBA seasons, Nene is what he is. It's flatline (at best) or downhill from the day he signs his last big-money contract. Nuggets4, are you still out there? Haven't seen you post in a long time. Please comment if you read this.
Nene was a bad defender until this year which likely happens to be his last major contract should he secure a long term deal.
/facepalm I'm confident Les will be contacting you soon to lead his search committee to replace Morey, what with your oh so omniscient GM-evaluating powers.
double amen, Nene is getting way overated, he does not deserve more than Scola contract. I take big Al any day of the week
