Adelman was more focused on offense side. Now with the new staff they will start making them play tough defense. Kelvin sampson Chris Finch Link: http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/meet_the_new_guys_musings__2011_07_28.html
Daryl will trade the oldest, most expensive PF on the team, Luis Scola. (We want that Bobcats draftpick Chicago...) Our frontcourt depth chart will look something like this... Marcus Morris/Chase Budinger Patrick Patterson/Chuck Hayes Free Agent C
Have you ever taken the time to look at the defensive rankings of Adlemans teams? I'm guessing not. You dont even have to go that far back. His first years with the rockets, they were elite defensively. A certain Chinese center had a bunch to do with that. You can't have a strong defense without the right personnel, and a soft pf coupled with a severely undersized center who, despite his dominant man defense, is a literal non factor as a presence in the paint guarantees you will be mediocre at best defensively. Adleman has proven he is a good defensive coach. The fact that he's a ****ing outstanding offensive coach overshadows that. The defense improves when the roster does, not with a coaching change. Minnesota, when McHale was HC, were pretty poor defensively.
I never said he was an all offense no defense coach. I just said he focused more on the offensive side. From the quote I posted, this coaching staff will make these players motivated to play tough defense. Anyone can play good defense, all it takes is discipline and effort. Scola isn't brainless, he can play defense eventually if he is coached properly, which is exactly what this coaching staff was chosen. It might be a slow start, but I can see this team improving both their offense (if they stick mainly to adelman's offense) and defense.
Do some better research on Rick the Ruler before you make some false accusation that the team didn't care about defense. Rick has taken two teams to the NBA Finals.
When have I said that? All I said was that he's more focused on the offensive said. That doesn't mean he had no thought about defense whatsoever. I'm not even going to take your post seriously, being the guy who took another guys quote way out of proportion and made a thread about it.
With the late start to the season, I would rather Rockets play all their Rookies, Young players and tank this season. 16W 50L
who takes your post seriously? Are you at Rockets practice when Rick was there? You hear him yell Offense 10 times while yelling Defense 5 times? no. This is Rick the Ruler not Mike D'Antoni that's all in your mind that you think he is 'more focused' on offense. and damn right i can make a thread about anything, it's my bobby brown given right.
Rick may have had some defensive plays, but his main focus was on offense. This staff will have more of a defensive approach while at the same time using the same offense. Win, win.
Wrong, Rick's main focus was winning. It's sad that fans want to break Rick down just to somehow make themselves feel better for getting McHale. I remember you Rick. 22 game winning streak.. yeah, some idiot fans think it was one player, we know it was team effort and you making our regular players like Rafer shine. Rick The Ruler
Easily offended, i see. I too was a fan of Adelman and did not want to see him go. We had a good thing going with him as the coach, but those days are gone. What isn't gone is the team and it's a good one. I think this coaching staff is going to do well earlier than anyone expects because of the team.
what kind of Rick fan thinks he more 'focused' on offense? he's not D'Antoni. A Rick the Ruler fan would defend that Rick emphasized defense, not spit some ladidadi. dude we don't even know what team we'll have, that's like predicting the colts not knowing if peyton manning is playing. this thread should have been started after we sign free agents.
Lol ladidadi! Anyway, we do know what team we have. The same one we had last season. The same one that will probably run Ricks offense still. The same team that ran Van Gundy's defense for the 1st season and a half of Adelmans term. Where have you been?
Wrong. We won't have the same team. There's that period where we're going to sign free agents before the season starts. On top of that are the players we drafted.
Thirty three, it is what we do. Compared to the excitement of the UH and Texan's seasons, the Rockets are going to be a let down. I'll still watch, but my expectations are very low. The team is kind of stuck.
