He gives gifts to anyone wanting to receive...WRs, TEs, RBs, FBs in the flat, CBs, safeties, and maybe even LBs if they have been especially good.
I'll take it, hands down, no question. For all the hell he catches to this day, no one with a head on their shoulders can tell me that Yates + Clemens + Brodie Croyle is a better idea than Yates/Sage + Clemens. He knows the offense inside and out. He has a rapport with most of the receiving corps. When he was here before, there was a tremendous emphasis on the passing game, and he still tallied an 84 QBR over his 19 games: 15.6c/23.8a (65.6%), 178yd, 1.26TD-1.21INT, 84 QBR (all per game avg) Yates may show us something, but we've GOT to cover our bases at this point. Sage can walk in and be ready to go in minimal time, unlike any other FAs off the street. He's started games, he's won some games, he's hit Johnson deep. In some aspects, he's a better guy for the job than Leinart was. We all know he HAS to be relegated to game manager - but that's exactly what we need. He got in trouble before trying to do too much because it was all on him (no run game or defense).
Please let this happen. I've always been a fan of Sage and with the weapons we have now, I think he could do well (assuming he still has something left). He was a little careless with the ball in his stint with us, but he was usually playing from behind and we didn't have a defense and running game that could be trusted. BTW I can't believe pancakes is saying that we wouldn't be interested. Even if he just comes here to be a backup, you're telling me they have more faith in Kellen Clemens and Brodie Croyle behind Yates???
He had strep throat, which can linger, I hope he is over it now, and the Titans don't **** block the Texans. DD
He might just be putting out the company line, trying to dissuade teams from putting in a waiver claim just to spite us. If we're "not interested", then it would be a waste for anyone to do so. I'd love to have him back but am a little concerned because the last time he threw a pass in a game was with us 3 years ago.
The Texans need their QB to do two things - well, technically one thing: throw the ball down field efficiently. Watching Leinart check-down all day yesterday was disheartening. Frankly, if that's all he had, we weren't going anywhere with him. He can complete 49/50; if he's averaging 4 YPA, teams are going to stack the box, take out the run and basically contain the Texans between the 20s. Rosenfels will throw downfield. Oh, will he throw downfield. His YPA was pretty even with Schaub's between '07 and '08. He just has to be smarter. But with our defense, I'll take a sloppy Rosenfels over a frightened Leinart any day. (And, btw, I would absolutely, positively call Brett Favre. I know, I know........ but I would. We have reached desperation level.)
The Texans offense is built for smart decision makers and requires strict adherence to the scheme. Does that sound like something designed for Favre? We may be desperate, but Favre isn't the answer. He proved in McCartney's system in Green Bay and again in Minnesota that when he sticks to the system and runs the plays as called he can be effective. But in both situations he proved that once the playoffs roll around he is absolutely going to do it his way and turn the ball over.
