And who is going to play center????? Hill? He's a power forward who is better in that position. Thabeet? He's the only real center, but does he deserve a STARTING position? Not right now, but maybe IF he's atually improved some. I would be happier if we had chuck starting and Thabeet off the bench. A player doesn't need to start in order to develop, but instead consistent playing time even if its 10 min or so. Hayes is only 28 and basically in his prime. He also is helping Patterson right now. Imagine how he would play 2-3 yrs from now with the teaching of mchale's offence and chucks defense. Chuck is more important to this team than people realize.
Whether or not we resign Hayes, this question still remains. Hayes does not answer this question. He simply would make the answer less wrong. Because if Hayes does answer your question, Morey wouldn't be trying to lure Nene right now or Tyson Chandler or Omar Asik or Gortat before. Morey wanted all these players when Hayes was under contract. Do you know why this is the case? Because Chuck Hayes is not a true starting center.
I think everyone knows Hayes is not a true starting center, but nene and asik are the only possible player in your list that is attainable and nene is a 50% if not less chance of getting him and I just didn't like the idea of giving lee for asik. If they were to let Hayes walk and didnt manage to get nene, would you feel any better by having to start hill or Thabeet at center? Fesenko is a cheap gamble, but he's an unknown. At least with chuck they already know what he can provide for the team. Either way I'm 100% at resigning chuck. If he's not signed I wish him the best of luck and I'd like to just sign fesenko or sign beidrins if he is amnesty cut and let them and Thabeet battle for the starting position.
I disagree... He was more impactful on the court than Luis Scola, in my opinion. Take out Chuck Hayes, and we win 20-25 games.
Wow! I can't believe you said that. I actually think(hope and pray) he will stay. He is the cornerstone of this team. Well he and Lowry.
Chuck Hayes has been the cornerstone of every team he's been on. He's just a cornerstone kind of guy.
LOL. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/holl...pn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics?sort=VORPe You'll see Scola and Lowry is ranked higher in estimated wins added.
Where else can he start all season as the center and garner as much success and attention to giving him minutes as here? I think he stays because he fits.
I didn't say I want him to leave, I just think it's more likely that Morey will pass on resigning him... which makes me angry at Daryl, but hey what can you do.
I would look to trade Scola for wing upgrade, sign Nene and re-sign Chuck Hayes. A Hayes/Nene front court would be awesome!
