I love how it's "the governments'" fault that Sandusky was molesting kids. It certainly had nothing to do with his free market charity that he used as his own personal veal ranch.

    You are missing the point.

I applaud that the govt is taking an active role in addressing the care of this child. However, I disagree with what was done. We don't have all the information, but I'd like to know if ALL avenues were explored and what exactly was the tipping point that made them decide that the child's mother was a danger to her son.

I am looking at this for the background of being in the health professions. I have seen kids that are pretty damn close to this kid's condition and NEVER has removing the child from his home and family been seen as a resolution.

    +1 Shastarocket.

This child was in a loving family that was not sexually or physically abusing him. Now, he may never seen his family again.

At his age, it is highly unlikely that he will be adopted. He will bounce around from foster home to foster home for the next decade. There might even a be chance that he gets placed with kids that were victims of sexual abuse. It is not uncommon for such kids to abuse other kids sexually. He is at a heightened risk for sexual and physical abuse. He will just be another number stuck in the system for 10 years. He may eventually become suicidal, a child molester, or other criminal.

What is the expected life expectancy for such a child anyway?

I am, and I'm double the kids age and about three fit taller.

No eight year old should weigh that much, I'm going to go against the sensationalist headline here and applaud the govt's decision.

When I was in third grade, I was one of the heaviest kids in my class at 80 lbs. This is ridiculous.

There are NBA players who don't weigh 200 lbs!

Yes, but it is quite common for children to be removed due to neglect. Regardless of what the report or mother claim, there has to be some neglect involved by the parents if an eight year old child is 200 pounds with no medical weight conditions. If you do however base your decision solely on the report, it does report that she placed him in a program to help him lose weight, but it also says that he has rapidly gained it back in recent months, and that the agency had been working with the mother for a year now.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a trend.

That's a very arbitrary use of the word "loving", especially after you agreed with shasta that we don't know all the facts.

Personally, I take care of anything or anyone I love unless they can take care of themselves.
