I expect Yates to be similar to Orton when he was a rookie... a game manager that makes limited big plays and limited mistakes.

As for Moes... the Texans are a very good football team, and have gotten better as the season has gone on. The defense is exceptional, the line is very good and there are playmakers all over the field on offense.

The Texans were VERY close to being 10-1, if not for injuries and a few very close plays.

They should make they playoffs and win 10-12 games and potentially win a playoff game... quite an improvement, and with better luck they will be in the upper echelon of the NFL next year.

I think the Texans are playing well because they finally stopped drafting like dickheads and got somebody who could coach.

But Kubiak strikes me as a tardbrain, no offense to tardbrains everywhere I am sure you are beautiful people but you should not be in charge of making critical decisions in a football game with actual stakes.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of fans are not doing that. Don't group all fans with 1 or 2 posters, if that.

Yates isn't even a Backup QB let alone a Starting one. Time to find an experienced QB.

Your trolling is getting pathetic. Take your lame ass somewhere else. Go to a Raiders football forum or something. If you nothing to contribute to the thread then GTFO.

I really wonder if people understand how two minute drills work. I'd really like to know how what Yates did in the two minute drill was impressive at all. Seriously, he showed the ability to make a few quick passes. Yeah, I'm sure it was Kubiak demotivating him at half that changed everything. That has to be it.

Did no one see the press conference after the game? Kubiak basically played no risk football and let the defense win the game for us. They didn't want Yates getting hurt and having to roll with Owen Daniels as the QB. It was obvious.

Yates caught my eye in pre season; displayed some intangibles like pocket presence, but I agree, time to bring in a vet. This is too much to ask of a raw rookie.

Yup those 3 net yards yall get a punt over us and that 9th ranked net punt avg is really worth those millions.

Let's see....Janikowski and Lechler for 7 million or almost any other top 10 punt/kick combo for 3 million?

Well I guess it's ok if they overspend on their punter and kicker since they have such great bargains on Palmer, Seymour, and Routt.

The playcalling was hardly any different for Leinart. It was conservative the whole game, yet I see people basically hating on Leinart early or saying Yates is better. I feel like the game was going to look like that regardless of who was under center, I just hope Yates can handle the pressure these coming weeks. I feel like a revitalized Leinart with the backing of coaches and a sense of his second big chance was more promising than a rookie variable, but I hope am wrong.

No, the playcalling was definitely different in the first and second half. They gameplanned for two weeks to have Leinart in there, and then he gets injured. There is no way the calls were the same. Like I said, Kubiak even admitted to this in the press conference. Besides, anyone could tell the different between Leinart and Yates, even just from the two minute drill Yates ran. Leinart played the "game manager" roll and only threw the safe throws. So much that the defenders would just run towards Foster before he even caught the ball. They knew. Yates comes in and you can see he owned the huddle and had more confidence in the pocket. He wasn't scared to throw it down field either. I already liked Yates better than Leinart after that drive.

The Jags offense was not going to do much of anything against the Texans D, so it's understandable why Kubiak played it safe and didn't want Yates getting injured. There were articles written about Yates back around draft time, and a lot of the things they say he does in the articles (knows defenses/coverages very well, smart, confident in the pocket, decent arm) showed up in that one two minute drive and that's without a single NFL snap with the first team. Give him this week to practice with the first team and Kubiak will open that playbook up more against Atlanta. We'll see.

    I didn't realize that he's 6'4". That's impressive.

An article on Yates before the game...

“I didn’t know that Matt had came out of the game, so when I looked up and saw T.J., I said, ‘What the hell is going on?”
    - Duane Brown

T.J. Yates looked more composed and better (when he wasn't restricted in the 2nd half especially) than a more game experienced Gabbert .. .Is T.J. the next Brady? - not sayin that . . . but I do know a week's time to prepare will make him look better for a full game.

I said Leinart will surprise us, and yea he did . . . T.J. will surprise us for the better.

at this point, I would rather just go with Yates under center than any other veteran. what choice do we have? go with Yates and live with the results. I'm not saying the season is lost but who knows, Yates just might surprise people.

why is moestavern trolling this thread. if you really are a raiders fan i think Tebow is a more pressing concern to you. He beat the raiders at home and that team is playing the best football in that division right now. Good luck to you!

As for Yates, he looked cool, calm and collected while out there. He definitely looked very confident barking out orders to the offense. The last drive before the end of the first half he looked better than Leinart did all game.

No other choice unfortunately. There's no other fix at this point, nobody is out there that can just step in, Clemens or Croyle will only be backups. We just have to ride this out with TJ and hope the kid brings it.

Schaub's had multiple two-minute drill chances this year in Houston. Off the top of my head, in the Raiders game we failed twice before the first half to score with possessions <3min left. Then the end of the game we had a 2min drill that ended in sadness at the goal line. The Ravens game before the half we also had a 2min drill that failed.

TJ Yates had a 2min drill against a good defense. He moved the ball to near the 5yd line with consecutive passes and a pocket presence I didn't see from Leinart all game. I don't care how the two minute drill is different, any way you'll spin it that's a positive indication to me that Yates has potential.
