Unless Yates turns out to be a really good QB. Crazier things have happened.

Johnny Unitas was drafted and released by the Steelers. He eventually became a backup QB for the Colts. When the starting QB got injured, Unitas got his chance and became one of the greatest football players of all time.

And of course the Kurt Warner story

Though Yates and the Texans have their work cut out for them to even be 1/4 of the level of those guys

I agree with this. It was my first thought when it initially happened, it was just a gut feeling.

    Who said that?

I mean Matt may not be elite or clutch - but he was the most important and irreplaceable guy on the team.

Losing him was a killer, you went from believing the team could win it all, to hoping, and now to praying.

    Very sad day.

Warner won that job, and in no way does anyone think TJ was even the second-best option on this team.

Oh, and about Unitas, very few QB's in NFL history, up to then, ever passed that much. In that era passing was desperation, and an indication that they couldn't play "real" football. Gimmicky.

The NFL is a passing league now and the most unlikely QBs to win a SB in the last 20 years were flukes (ironically the NYG's were involved in both).

I'm amazed at our defense - so many kids - and even though I think they may keep getting better there's no way you can expect them to shut everyone down.

    Playoffs, woohoo now.

Time for Kurt Warner to replace Leinart again. At this point I think they're playing too well and too close to the big one to half ass personnel.

Well, the point I was trying to make was that sometimes a third stringer can come out of nowhere and be a great player. I'm not making any predictions about Yates, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel and say our season is doomed.

I don't think anybody should be that drastic. Texans likely still beat Indy and Carolina. Titans likely lose to the Bills and Saints, and also Texans (if that game means something).

That gives us the division... and a first round game at home probably against the Jets.

You give me a 10-6, possibly 11-5 division winning season and a home playoff game prior to this season, and I wouldn't have blinked an eye.

The fact is that this team has a nice young core/nucleus on BOTH sides of the ball gives us a bonafied contender window of 3-5 years.... THAT is the true success of this season.

Sadly, only the Colts are a surefire win unless Yates gets better (being fair, he wasn't a disaster being thrown into the fire).

Our defense is good, but you've got to be able to put points on the board.

Bills are freefalling. Titans know they have a chance to leapfrog us if the Saints are their only loss and we lose to the Falcons and Bengals. And Chris Johnson erupted today...if he's finally on track, they aren't a joke.

Leinart said it felt the same as it did in 2007, and he knew it right away.

Usually if it is displaced you can not move your arm around, I was hopeful when I first saw it, that he was moving his arm, and his shoulder was not lower than the other one.

Maybe it is just a crack - and non displaced, that would allow him to come back in 2-4 weeks I believe.

Leinart's injury is on Schaub. Had Schaub been healthy, Leinart wouldn't have been the in the game. Pathetic thing to do to a teammate.

PFT: Look for them to sign Brodie Croyle as #3.

At the end of the preseason, there were a ton of people around here who thought Yates was the second best option. Not sure if it was justified as he played against scrubs instead of second-teamers, but there was definitely a push for TJ Yates as #2 around here.

Leinart did in the preseason exactly what he did when he was in the game - check down on every play. Yates went down the field and looked good.
