I'm not implying Yates has full command of the playbook. I'm not saying he is playing great. But, for being thrown into the fire, he's been okay. What I wanted were swing passes, 5 to 7 yard throws, just like what Leinart was doing. The reason being that, although Yates most importantly needs practice with the first string, he needs game experience if he is going to be our QB from here on out. He needs to practice his drop back with live bullets. Practice moving in and out of the pocket, etc. I like the swing passes, because they're safe, and get him some experience. All of this is multiplied by the fact that Jacksonville was stacking the box and killing our running game.
