True, plus Michigan is a bigger money grab compared to MSU or WIS. Denard Robinson has some national pull as well. Guess that matchup makes money and football sense.
Which I don't understand, he's a great athlete but just a mediocre QB from what I've seen. Keenum is 100x more accurate than him.
it helps that Denard is playing for a very big program. He could be terrible and they would still find a way to hype him up. It's just how college ball works.
I've only watched 2 Michigan games this season but I saw him missing targets by 5 yards at times, something I've never seen Keenum do and I catch almost every UH game. People say Keenums success lies in strength of schedule but I never see him make such poor throws... Although that could be do to the fact he has 3 years more experience than any other QB haha
I think it's just more of the fact that analysts love the whole "dual threat QB" in college more than anything else. Denard has had his moments where you really have to go wow, but I do agree that he is not a QB. He is an athlete playing the QB postion.
Do you still honestly believe this after today's results? If so, enjoy debating yourself. Your team is guaranteed locked in by the BCS and in everyone's mind except for maybe some hopeless OSU homers. You'll get the rematch.
Michigan fan here. Just wanted to say as a native Houstonian, I'm extremely excited about the opportunity for my alma mater to go up against UH in a BCS bowl. Just to provide a little insight on this Michigan team: - We're 10-2 with a first year head coach and a brand new offensive/defensive scheme - Denard has struggled with the transition, but has come on the last two games against Nebraska and Ohio State (3 incompletions today against Them Gay Acorns) - Denard's main issue is turnovers (usually fumbles or INT at least once a game) but his accuracy as of late has been above average - This team ranked 108th in total defense in 2010 and are now ranked in the top 15, due solely to the fact that we hired Greg Mattison as our DC (previous Baltimore Ravens DC) - Starting freshman at Weakside LB, Strongside LB, and Second CB - Due to Rich Rod's inability/unwillingness to recruit on the defensive side of the ball, depth is a real issue All in all, the Big 10 is filled with run heavy teams, so playing a team like UH will be something different for us. Our CB depth is really weak, so that may be an issue covering all of UH's receivers. Given that we'll have 15 extra practices for Greg Mattison to put together a gameplan, I feel confident we'll be well prepared for UH's pass-heavy offense, especially since Keenum isn't exactly a dual-threat QB who we'd have to put a spy on. There will be heavy blitzes dialed up by Mattison. Hope this matchup happens. I've been rooting for UH all year with exception to this potential matchup, and am excited for the future of UH's program. Good luck against SMU. Go Blue!
Man, the hype for Luck is intense: Stanford - Notre Dame Coverage Come again??? The guy thows for 4 TDs and a pick and is lauded as the second coming - that would be an average game for Case. And can you imagine what Case would do with a couple monster 6'8 tight ends to target? Shoot, I'd like to be a college quarterback if I could throw to guys who are about a foot taller than the guys guarding them too. Just ask Brady Quinn - I remember he rode a connection with a monster tight end all the way to much hype and what has turned out to be a very poor NFL career so far (he couldn't beat out Tim Tebow in Denver this year). #CASE for Heismann
Well how quaint...he throws for season best 233 yards and broke the SCHOOL record for career TDs. Case gets 233 on a bad day and has doubled Luck's career TD output for the FBS record! I get that he doesn't get the national attention and plays weaker schools, but his stats are so unbelievably sick. Combine that with his high IQ and ability to run the offense on his own at times, how could he not be a serious contender?!
I read yesterday that Case has something like a .67% interception percentage this year. His nearest competitor has nearly double that at 1.19%. Less than 1% of Case's passes are intercepted... not bad for a guy who has thrown around 500 passes this season.
New AP and Coaches Poll results out. Coogs in #7 and #6 spot respectively. About time we moved in front of Boise St.
Also, just noticed Southern Miss is back in the top25 on AP and Coaches. #24 and #23. Hope they're in the BCS around there.
I'm a big Luck fan but I agree the hype is getting a little bit overboard. I'm guessing some of it has to do with him being so humble and being a coaches dream QB, displaying leadership, unselfishness, and claiming responsibility for any miscues. Regarding the monster tight ends comment, Keenum has 2 speedsters in Carrier and Edwards to throw the ball to who are big threats to get a bunch of yards after the catch. Luck has no speed receiver to throw to besides Owusu, who is extremely inconsistent and not healthy. The monster tight ends are nice no doubt but it's not like he has an exemplary receiving core like Barkley at USC.
233 yards is not his season best... I agree Keenum should be right up there for the Heisman. Richardson, Keenum, Griffin, Barkley, Luck in that order if it was up to me.
Aren't most QBs like this? Don't know if being humble has to do with talent. Any good winning QB who follows the game plan is a coaches dream. So following that line of reasoning regarding Luck...he look ok.
