A little tidbit for those advocating tanking to get some high picks. NYDNDickWeiss Dick Weiss reports nba will require players to stay in college 2 years in school before entering the league, not one. includes current freshmen?
There's no way Nene is better than Scola. Scola has improved every single year he has played in the Nba. You can't say that for nene. Last year Scola averaged 18.3 ppg with 8.2 rbds per game. Last year Nene averaged 14.5 ppg with 7.6 rbds per game. Scola is also a better free throw shooter. The only thing Nene has on Scola is defense. Scola plays harder and has more heart.
Nene is a better two-way player than Scola. Better player overall? It's probably Scola. But we need the defense. Carmelo sucked up so many rebounds that Nene's numbers on the boards improved once he was traded. In Houston, Nene would probably be a 14 PPG, 8.5-9 RPG, 1 BPG player. On paper, Scola might look better (hell, those are practically Scola's career averages) but Nene's defensive impact doesn't show up on a stat-sheet. If we acquire Nene I think you have to look to move Scola and pass the torch to Patterson and/or Morris (or Hill too, if he ever "gets it"). Of course, the difficulty in this would be paying a premium for Nene then risking the chance that we would be unable to move Scola and his considerable contract. My issue with being apprehensive to signing Nene is more about timing than it is anything else. I don't think I like the idea of Scola/Nene upfront.

by far? really? Do you understand numbers - stats? do you know history? check out Scola's contributions to Argentina basketball club.
A more complete quote. Welcome to the club, Daryl. It took you long enough. I've only been saying this since Yao went down over two years ago. And since the Chronic Sports is essentially a mouthpiece, the most likely scenario is for the Rockets to tank this season. To that I say - it's about damn time!
Rag on Justice all you want, but after the T-Mac/management feud, it seems to me that he has some connections in the Rockets front office. He rarely writes articles on the Rockets, so when he does it tends to be with good information about their intentions (although he never gives his sources). So in my mind this isn't just conjecture: these thoughts are coming from someone besides Richard Justice. About the Nene or blow-it-up strategy...I have to say that I agree. Before the lockout I was all for pushing this Rockets regime to its winningest limit, but as the lockout drug on my stance has changed. The new CBA hasn't drastically altered the playing field to make it more favorable for sound business planning to lead to championship hopes for well-run teams. The only way to win in David Stern's NBA is superstars, the more the merrier. As long as Houston has underrated talent that outperforms the sum of their individual talents, we will never have chances at a championship. The Detroit Pistons being the only examples of five all-star/non-superstar players to win a championship in the past 30+ years is a really crappy precedent to hang your hat on; everyone else had a player that was at least top 5 in their respective season, and until the Rockets get that I am now on the boat of tearing it apart. The lack of a hard cap, the presence of a max salary, and the devaluing of the midlevel exception are further rules to promote the idea that you can pretty much load a championship team full of scrubs once you get a couple superstars to build around. I anxiously await Bima's CBA analysis once everything becomes final, but until then I see no hope for a Rockets teamwork model to lead to success in this system. I was actually hoping for more chaos in the NBA to finally push us to a hard cap system, or at least a bending of the rules away from superstars, but now that Stern has won, the players association has backed down, and business is resuming as usual, it's time for the Rockets to play by the rules and win the way they want us to. Ergo, our team's stars need the same amount of Gatorade commercials, shoe deals, and bandwagoners across the country or else we won't have a shot.
Scola and Nene have totally different skillsets, so it's hard to compare the two. Scola is a better post player & better at creating for himself. Nene is more effective off the ball. Scola has the better (jump) shot. Nene is better around the rim. Scola takes a lot of charges. Nene gets a lot of deflections. Nene also is the better passer & scores more efficiently. He's the better defender and effective both at PF & C. Personally I'd take Nene over Scola, tough I don't see how that's matters as the Rockets probably don't plan to trade on for the other. I don't love the idea of a frontcourt combo of Scola and Nene though. Patterson and Nene sounds OK to me. Just trade to Scola to the Bucks already!
Would a deal surrounding Scola, Williams and Budinger for Iguodala be reasonable? I was hearing that the Sixers may amnesty cut Brand and Scola may be a good and cheaper replacement.
ShaneBattier Shane Battier Getting mad love from Grizz nation, Heat nation, Thunder nation and Rocket nation. Let free agency begin!!! Thanks y'all! A return of the Bat-Man?
I don't think the Sixers will amnesty Brand and even if they would I don't see them being interested in Scola. I like the idea of trading for Iggy, but I think you're gonna need a third team if the deal includes Scola. Highly doubt it. I think he'll go to the Thunder.
I don't see Nene as the impact player Rockets need to entertain any championship aspiration. He is a good role player which we have plenty of on this team already. Pass.
I could see this, Durant tweeted that he wanted Battier to sign with OKC and he always seems to help young teams overachieve
