I don't see why our ability or inability to sign another PF should determine whether or not we rebuild. Tear. It. Down.
This isn't NBA Live Lockout 2012. There is only so much our team can do! Morey would love to add a star to our roster. Many people feel that Nene has been snubbed at least twice from the All Star Game! If he wouldn't have been snubbed, would he be considered a star now? I'm not quite sure what the new CBA will mean as far as offered salary ranges, but I would assume we would not throw a max salary at him. He is not the best rebounder, but he had the best FG% last year and is a pretty solid defensive player. He is almost assuredly going to leave the Nuggets since three of their main players are now in China now. Nene is not a Yao Ming, Hakeem Olajuwon, or anything that even pales in comparison. Nobody would can lead us to an NBA Championship. He is a top 10 center and those are VERY hard to come by. We would be idiots to pass him up. Especially since his effective play fits right in with Moreyball! Nene is somewhat like a Kendrick Perkins type of player. Perkins doesn't score a lot of points or get a lot of rebounds, nor is he a great shot blocker, but is a bruiser in the middle who clogs the lane. The Celtics were able to win a title with him and played the Lakers very close the next year, but when he got injured the Celtics started to regress. Perkins was not, nor will ever be an all star I think in the right system Nene could possibly be every bit that player. http://nba-point-forward.si.com/2011/06/30/assessing-the-potential-market-for-nene/ http://blogs.wsj.com/dailyfix/2011/02/10/nenes-repeat-all-star-snub/ If we don't get Nene at a reasonable price than obviously we want to throw all our chips in for Dwight Howard.
Scratch that. Perkins is a pretty good offensive player, but he has yet to score over 20 points per game. That's what I meant.
Looks like I can glean 3 embarrassing things about you from this post, sofine81: 1. You are easily offended and take Dick Justice seriously - bad combo 2. You bear the formerly private - now public -shame of having voted for Rick Perry more than once 3. Uhh - you ummmm .... Not sure -OOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rebuild, don't give big contracts to Nene or to any other role player. We need high 1st round picks and cap room. No need for Thabeet,Hill or T-Will. Going for a center in exchange for Battier, was the right thing, but DM went for the wrong player. Still no harm was done. It doesn't matter if Howard doesn't come here, staying stuck as a potential 1st round team won't help. We need to rebuild like OKC.
Is there any clear evidence Morey's going after Nene? Is Nene-chasing speculation, smokescreen, or happening right now?
Too many second bananas. Nene is a good player but let's be honest: we would still be a team in limbo. We would still be a team with too many parts and no MACHINE. I'd rather pass, see what happens then pray the Dwight-to-LA train somehow gets derailed by some type of Morey miracle. Risky, I know. But you pay a premium for quality centers since they're so scarce. Between Martin, Scola, Nene and now with Lowry emerging there's too much uncertainty as to how we should mold our offense, who's our leader and/or go-to-guy down the stretch, etc.
Lowry and Nene can create for themselves and others. We would be a Memphis 2.0 with the addition of Nene.
So you guys replacing Scola with Nene are serious? You'd rather have Nene than Scola? And don't tell me yes and then get Dwight Howard to pair with Nene because Howard isn't comin here. Theres no way in hell you replace Scola with nene.
Nene is the superior player by far. He's a better defender, better playmaker, better post presence overall. Scola might have a better jump shot but that's all.
Is there an amnesty clause in the new CBA? If so, I'm inclined to use it on Luis Scola. He's getting older, has some injury concerns, doesn't play D, has a big long term deal and we have Patterson and could re-sign Chuck for half of what he makes. I say rebuild. We have a top 10 point guard, I think Marcus Morris will be a great role player at SF and Pat Pat could become a superstar with starting minutes. Plus a deep bench with Dragic, Lee, Budinger. I say deal Kevin Martin to the Clippers for a sign and trade of DeAndre Jordan and a lottery pick and let's get this ship rolling. Nene does nothing to excite me.
Not sure that's a good thing. Memphis has been doing exactly what I want us to avoid: committing to too many LT contracts. Sure, they're a solid team but as it stands they have one hefty LT contract (likely Gay) that simply doesn't fit and will need to move if possible. My point is I don't want to see us wind up in the same boat where we have that one extra player/contract that simply doesn't fit. And let's be honest: they're tough but they're also an eight seed that got hot at the right time and exploited an aging Spurs team. I hardly consider them a model for success.
That's it. Scola will spin circles around any defensive big man in the post. With Scola you can drop it down to him in the post and he'll go to work. With nene you can't do that. Most of his baskets come from easy put backs or open looks.
