Matt Leinart discusses the opportunity, offense, etc. (podcast)

I enjoy how you only focus on one guy saying it's Bledsoe-Brady and make a sweeping statement about us being homers. The overwhelming majority of Texans fans think Leinart will take us anywhere from 3-3 to 5-1. I really don't think that makes us delusional. The system that the Texans have in place is about as good as it gets for a quarterback coming in and taking over mid-season. But, we shall see.

Leinart wasn't terrible in Arizona. Because Warner came in and did better, people make Leinart out to be Jamarcus Russell. Kurt Warner is a Hall of Famer.


Leinart went 7-10 as a starter, in an offense that heavily relied on the QB throwing the ball. Certainly not John Elway, but it doesn't at all seem unrealistic to think with extra experience, and in an offense that allows a QB to be conservative and make some easy throws that he can be successful..

Realistically, Schaub has been mostly a game manager this year. In our 7 wins he's only averaged 210 YPG on 23 Attempts. All we need the QB to do is keep the defense honest, not be Peyton Manning.

I'm not expecting Brady part 2, most rational fans aren't. But I've seen teams with very mediocre QB's make playoff runs. Don't see why Leinart can't.

 

But it does say something when the cardinals decide to let leinart go and have Derek Anderson be their QB. They saw him in practice and in preseasons.

 

But it does say something that the texans decided Leinart was worth keeping around as a backup qb and signing him to a new deal as well. From what I am hearing, Kubiak and the coaching staff believe in him and thats important.

Plus Leinart matured it seems like from his zona days.

 

All I'm hoping for is for Lionehart to be "not terrible." Hopefully he can do that.

Schaub has been much better than "not terrible" though. He has been very efficient. He's not throwing tons of passes thanks to the successful runninggame, but he's getting lots of yards per attempt.

 

I don't think anybody is making him out to be as bad as Jamarcus Russell, but more of a David Carr imo. And David Carr could take this team to the playoffs.

 

Only time will tell....
