Labor talks into Hour 11. No end in sight. Not using the "p" word but the negotiations seem to be substantive.

A very ragged looking David Stern just walked past us. And we have no idea where he came from.

That was the most bizarre thing I've seen during this lockout.

    HowardBeckNYT Howard Beck
David Stern, looking less than energetic, just strolled back into the building. He seemed thrilled to see us.

In another bizarre lockout moment, David Stern himself just walked past stakeout reporters and strode into office building. Alone.

Stern was holding what appeared to be some kind of brochure and waved to the writers but said nothing. I wish I had an explanation for this.

    Very creepy.

Nah, the league cannot actually AGREE to any changes to their last proposal without the committee's say-so. This just means that the league expects to have some moderately acceptable concessions to get signed off on by the committee tonight, or at least to discuss with them.

Now that's a dedicated NBA beat reporter: Sam Amico staking out the negotiations standing on the toilet trying to get a scoop.

One league owner not on the Labor Relations committee told one of his team's executives he's optimistic about deal getting done this weekend

Source invlvd w/ NBA talks told TNT's David Aldridge there's "genuine desire" to get a deal tonight. Two sides are "engaged," if not closer.

Expectation going in was that league would make significant move on remaining system issues. Length of talks could be read either way ...

As reported earlier today, there was "positive movement" from ownership side to get a deal done this weekend.

My interpretation of same people in meeting instead of lawyers is that groundwork was built in backchannel talks earlier this week.

Duration of meeting could actually be a bad sign. Two sides know what issues are. They know the numbers. Either a deal is there or its not.

What could these bafoons possibly have left to disagree on? Favorite Beatle?

I find no hope in the fact that its basically just the same ol rag tag group of grumpy old men that can't agree on anything. I don't have much hope at all for a deal tonight.

No Jeff Kessler and he's replaced by Jim Quinn.

The NFL got a deal done right after they kicked out Kessler. Coincidence?

As talks hit 12 hrs, must say I didn't envision another marathon and didn't think same people would be in room. Both concern me.

It also could mean the A issues are resolved, and they are moving on to the B issues.

Why'd it take so long to deal w/ system issues tonight? Players pushed for return to 51% of revenue split, source says; Stern, Holt refused.
