I don't think they would get crushed against LSU, their offense is not good enough to put up a huge number of points. I would think a team with a better offense would be more likely to crush UH. The answer based on your hypothetical is that I would rather play LSU and get crushed, at a minimum you played in the biggest game of the season.
Did ya see what LSU did to Ole Miss? I doubt UH's defense is even as good as Ole Miss'. LSU would hang 50 on the coogs without a problem. And Keenum can get flustered when faced with a defensive line surge, and LSU would be in his face all night long. That game would be a completely one-sided waste of time.
UH is 31st in scoring defense in an offensive conference Ole Miss is 96th in scoring defense in a defensive conference UH > Ole Miss LSU will probably beat UH in a best out of three series, but they wouldn't score 50, or close to it. Plus West Virginia put up alot of points on LSU in a spread offense. And UH's offense is much better than WV
lmao. Playing Georgia State vs. playing an SEC schedule renders your argument false. I'm going to sign you up alongside mattj in the "remedial SOS 101 course"
Supposition does not equal reality; give us a chance, then we will see. If UH beats Tulsa and S.Miss, I will then be convinced that they are one of the best regardless of schedule. Yes, the schedule was weak, but when you beat most teams by 50, that says something. Anyway you cut it, 13-0 is something special. I don't expect to play LSU, but I am hoping for Alabama or Arkansas. UH is scary fast, they "might" run the hulky boys in the ground or they may get man-handled, but talk is air. Only way to know is play.
Repeat after me....A strong strength of schedule only means something if you beat one of the good teams you play (won't name names but certain teams who's fans keep littering Cougar threads with how easily their 6-4 but somehow still in the top 25 team would destroy the Coogs) a weak schedule doesn't mean as much when you haven't lost to any of the weaker teams on your schedule...it just means you are unproven against top flight competition. LSU is unbeaten against some of the best, the Bama's and Stanford's of the world are once beaten against great competition and deserve our respect. If we win twice more, put us on the field against a top notch program and lets see what happens.
I can't believe it but I actually agree with bigtexxxx for once lol. LSU and UH would be no contest... (no offence) It would be a game between future NFL players and College players who will get day jobs after graduating.
UCLA scores 34 LA Tech scores 34 UTEP scores 42 Rice scores 34 And you don't think LSU could come close to scoring 50? Really?
You forget that most of the secondary are first year starters and those games are at the beginning of the year. Look at what UH has done lately and tell me they are not a serviceable defense. I mean if Georgia Southern can put up 21 on Alabama when they are a 1 trick pony....

Why does SOS even matter to a Rice fan? It only counts if you actually WIN the games. You need to concern yourself with Strength of Loss. That's a statistic built for people like you. This is what I would put on your 2011 football resume Tex. Lost to a top 10 team. (UH) Lost to the Heisman Trophy Winner. (Robert Griffin) Lost on a TV Network that no one could watch. (Longhorn Network) Accrued an Owl Record SIX Moral Victories when the team didn't quit during its ass kicking. (Texas, SO Miss, UH, Northwestern, Baylor, Tulsa)
I can make a prediction, but I want to know if the UH folks would like me to engage my reverse jinx powers to protect their record. DD
Are you guys looking past Tulsa? It seems like the first real challenge. For all intensive purposes in this game, Tulsa is a fellow undefeated team hosting UH. They both are 7-0 against their conference. The difference is that Tulsa played and lost to Oklahoma, Oklahoma St and Boise St. That's 3 TOP 10 teams. UH hasn't played a team in the top 30. It's why Tulsa's SOS is 67 and UH's is 116. In terms of playing competition that is similar in quality, they are equal. I'm not saying Tulsa is going to win. I'm saying it's going to be UH's first challenge all year and it is on the road. IF UH does win, I think they win next week and go the BCS.
Nah, if anything, we've been looking forward to Tulsa. I'd argue that UCLA (possible Pac 12 South champ) and La Tech (WAC champ) would qualify as tests. I think Tulsa is better than both, but not by much. In terms of stats against similar competition, UH has a small edge. stats here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjwBw3txIcIOdGV0VkF4enBoclJXRTM3ZHFycHp4bXc#gid=0 UH should win, but I won't be surprised if they lose. Tulsa always plays us hard, especially at home, and I've known since early in the year they were every bit of a top 40 program. I do agree, however, that if we win this one, we should romp in the title game.
